Despite being a relative newcomer to Victoria, Outsider has quickly made himself a fixture in the local electronic music scene. The drum-and-bass DJ also known as Jon Camilleri is a versatile beat connoisseur with an uncanny ability to read a crowd, whether they’re downtempo diners at a lounge or frenzied festival-goers. Relocating to the Island in 2009 after growing up and cutting his DJ teeth in Toronto, Outsider has shared the stage with world-class acts like Andy C, Aphrodite, High Contrast, Rusko, 12th Planet, Distance and Benny Page, to cherry-pick a few names from his impressive gig resume. He’s rocked pretty much every major electronic music festival on Vancouver Island (including closing for Dieselboy, Dirty Phonics and TC in the 2009 and 2010 editions of the legendary Soundwave Music Festival), and regularly headlines his own gigs, both on the road and in Victoria. He can also be found behind the decks as a resident for both Whitebird and sub|division, Victoria’s foremost pusher of bass culture. In the club, he is a surgeon in the mix, clipping along flawlessly from track to storming track, able to blend ol’ skool amen-laden flavours with modern envelope pushers. Don’t let the name fool you: with his eclectic taste in tunes and nearly a decade of experience as a DJ, Outsider is definitely in on a lot of musical secrets.

Since an early age Frantiq has been interested in all things music and audio related, and he shares these passions whenever he can. The catalyst of this came when he discovered the art of DJ’ing through old school hip-hop DJ’s and turntablists. Soon after being introduced to the diverse world of electronic music the two became one and the same from then on.
Frantiq has been DJ’ing for events and dance floors throughout western Canada since 2000. In his mixes he takes the skills and techniques of turntablism and applies them to a wide and eclectic range of musical styles. Conscious of the vibe he carefully selects each tune and mixes them together with the care of a craftsman to blend music and sound to create a journey and new experience for his audiences. Expect to hear the unexpected as he shares everything good under the sun, arranged and mixed from the ears of one music lover to another (you).

From Calgary, Alberta, this up and coming Canadian Breaks dj/producer has a love for Bass Culture like no other. Coming from a small town where music had limitations, he grew up on hip hop.. but underneath it all was a yearning for something funky, dirty and broken. After being introduced to the rave scene in his early 20’s, he soon found himself overtaken by the world of breaks. With his love for the music, he started Breakz R Boss Productions alongside brother Mr.Bassline Junk-E. Studying electronic music and its culture for years, 2008 brought new motivation as he created the “Calgary Bass Junkies”, an affiliation of local producers. 2010 only has good things in store, with the launch of Breakz R Boss Records, a new digital label showcasing the finest Canadian and International bass music

Wookie has been in the scene for a lot of years, he knows how to lay down a mean set of hard pumping energetic beats! Having played at numerous summer festivals, including VEMF, you will know when you’re hearing him.
Egyptrixx makes celestial club music; jeep music for a Saturn desert. There is an exhilarating right-but-wrong tension that all of his tracks share - a shifting balance between melodic and dissonant, rapturous and antisocial. His releases challenge the status quo and impress with a unique style informed by elements of techno, house, dubstep, pop and drone music. His debut album, ‘Bible Eyes’ was released in March of 2011 to critical acclaim from Pitchfork, The Wire, Spinner, Fader, and many others.
Rhys Closson: Born in Victoria, but ancestry tracing back to Germany and Sweden, it is no wonder that Rhys became an avid electronic connoisseur. Always loving the dark and energetic side of Techno, Tech-House and Minimal he is sure to make you move and fall into a rhythmic state. He has been mixing since 2005.
Erik Posnikoff: Also Swedish by blood, his musical style contrasts Rhys’s with a smooth blend of Funky Tech-House, House and of course..TECHNO. He doesn’t mess around when it comes to 4x4 beats. He’s been working on productions of his own recently. He has been mixing seriously for the past few years.
We started playing together two years ago, and decided we needed to make a name for ourselves. We both live for the clicking sound in techno music so we took our initials and named ourselves re_Click. We closed Diehard this past summer for 5 hours, played The Base Lounge, and have played many community dances and house parties.
I specialize in UK Bass music such as dubstep, garage, liquid funk, drum & bass. I am the founder of a music collective (Outersphere Recordings) that has the primary goal of building community in Victoria centered around dance music, primarily dubstep and drum & bass, as well as to positively support all existing music collectives in the city. I run two radio shows every week including one broadcasting out of the UK, and one from the University of Victoria (beginning July 9th). I have a large amount of instrumental music experience and my obsession is also my career choice. I am finishing my last six courses for a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Music, studying with some leading music technology researchers at the University of Victoria. I am also the founder and current president of the Computer Music Course Union at the university and intend on entering a Masters program in this field in the fall of 2012. I began performing primarily as a DJ this year as an opening act for Whitebird Events (www.whitebirdlifestyle.com), including “Propa Tingz” and “Grasp the Erro” at Hush Nightclub. Following the event, I was featured in a review by Victoria’s bass music blogger “Dub Selekta” (www.dubselekta.com). In November 2010, I was booked to provide music for a Whistler, BC snowboard company named Voleurz to support their promotional video tour (www.voleurz.ca). This event took place at Sugar Nightclub and was a highly successful. The included artist photos depict this event. The company later invited me to play music for another one of their events in Whistler BC, based on the success in Victoria, but I was unable to make it due to academic commitments. Since these events, I have filled the role as an in-house DJ at Whitebird Lounge, substituting for Sub|Division’s DJ Rhythmicon on several occasions. I have also performed as a DJ at many more informal events. References are available for all or any previous events upon request. I have been told to encourage promoters to contact these references as a result of my performances.
Started his career as a DJ 2 years ago in the city of Victoria BC. After months of saving money he finally bought his first dj set for 800 dllrs in used victoria. This set included 1 denon cdj dns1000, 1 stanton cdj c324 1 two-channel stanton mixer.
With no headphones and no speakers the journey started…
Due to monetary issues Dj Alegro had to use an rca cable to plug his mixer into his tv. And due to his passion for bass he blew up the tv speakers….
However, about 10 days after the tv incident his sister gave him his first pair of headphones as a birthday gift and he received a pair of speakers from his parents.
Finally the Set up was complete.
After 1 month of practicing he had his first gig. A 100 people private party. After this day, he knew what he wanted to do with the rest of his life.
Making people dance is not just satisfactory for the fact that you are doing your job right. It is satisfactory because YOU KNOW that your personal problems are not an issue at the moment and the same thing happens with your audience.
It does not matter what your going through at that point in your life, when the music starts the sadness stops.
After a couple gigs hard-work started to pay off and after a couple months the cdjs 900 and the cdm 800 from pioneer were in my bedroom.
When 2011 started i realized that i do not want to be only a DJ i want to become a producer of my own work and that is why i have moved to Mexico City where i will be attending to a Music University where they teach you all about producing.
I attended VEMF last year and unfortunately i was not on time to submit an application form. I still had a great time and this year i hope i can be a part of it.

It was a dance party in an industrial zone of Vancouver that was Florian’s introduction to electronica, and he immediately knew he wanted to get involved with the scene. Quickly thereafter he was getting involved in all sorts of events, from indoor shows to multi-day outdoor festivals includin…g Shambhala, In:Vision, Diversity, and Entheos. When Florian was 16, he began investigating the alchemy of beats, basslines and melody—seeking the transformative quality they hold on a dancefloor with the potential to unify each person into the interactive whole. He’s studied the domains of dub, breaks, glitch, trance, and house in all it’s forms with great dilligence, and now uses these modules to deliver a potent blend of sonic bliss that draws each individual into the dancefloor experience. Climbing the ranks from partier, to waste management, to harm reduction, to event planning, Florian is now a budding producer, promoter, and manager of Sunset Room - Victoria’s only all hours dance venue. Stay tuned for lots more from this committed & growing addition to the BC scene!
Dialectic performs live electronic music, using hardware synths, sequencers, effects. Each performance is a unique interpretation of his tracks, with mutes, fades, timbral and effects modifications performed live.
Dialectic defines his music as Psychedelic Techno. While rooted in the Techno genre, he has an eclectic range of influences, from Jazz to Funk, Soul, Psychedelic Rock, and 70’s European electronic music, as well as Detroit Techno and House.
I started out playing outdoor end-of-the-year concerts for Community Colleges around my home town of NYC. When I moved to BC for school, I fell in love with the house music scene, specifically people’s appreciation for good house music here. My goal every set, whether it’s at a house party or stage is to give people the most entertaining experience as they listen an dance to the beats I am so passionate about.
DJ Klever aka Josh Winkler was born on the fourth of July in 1977, the son of famous blues musician, Juke Joint Johnny. Josh distinctly recalls going to his father’s shows at a young age and listening him jam out on the harmonica. At the tender age of four, he received his very first drum set, a “manimall” Muppet Show kit that he practiced playing until the skins busted.
Josh spent most of his adolescence like any all-american kid: baseball, grinding curbs, and eating apple pie. He lived to sneak out at night and hit Atlanta’s local skate spots where he caught a healthy reputation for his competitive spirit and pushing big tricks.
At the age of sixteen, Josh’s competitive passion for both tricks and music met the almighty turntable and Klever was born. Growing up with a hip hop background, Klever studied djs like Premier, Cash Money, Afrika Bambaataa and Jazzy Jeff for their mixing and scratching arrangements.
In 1997, Klever started competing in every local competition possible where he began practicing with the Third World Citizens - Faust, Shorty, Shotgun, Craze, and T-Rock. In 2000, Klever seized the national DMC championship title and while at the international DMC competition, he was inducted into the world famous Allies crew, which consisted of renowned turntablists Craze and A-Trak. He began traveling the globe a lot with Craze. Shortly after, the two released the cult classic “ Scratch Nerds.” Klever began to produce prominent break record’s for battle djs and producers. In 2001, Klever successfully defended his national DMC title. He then represented the states in London for the international title. Later that year, he also won the national ITF title in San Francisco.
Beyond his accredited mastery as a turntablist, Klever has developed a healthy reputation as “tomorrows dj”. Klever has established his name throughout the dj circuit for his crowd-roaring routines and mix sets. Being born and raised an ATLien, his signature style (on and off the decks) moves crowds in every direction from his roots of crunk, booty, and hip hop to the sweaty sounds of electro, dance-rock, b-more, new-wave, hard rock, and anything worthy to make you rock with finesse.
In the past 5 years, Klever has been performing his signature sets non-stop around the world (Taiwan, England, Ireland, Germany, New Zealand, Scandinavia, Australia, Japan, etc). He consistently amazes crowds and party-goers from 60 to 60,000 at world renowned venues such as Miami’s Mansion, Amsterdam’s Paradiso, NYC’s Roxy and Irving Plaza, Fabric in London, and many more.
He has released several mix CDs obtaining notoriety from culture heavy hitters such as Turntable Lab and Tablist magazine. He also two immensely popular battle break records with DJ SHOTGUN (former dj for Goodie Mob), Dirty South Breaks and Get Crunk Breaks. He has also done remixes for Cool Kids, The Carps, Kill the Noise, Steed Lord to name a few.
Not only audibly, Klever’s skills have been featured in numerous DVDs: the film Scratch (a DJ documentary awarded at the Sundance Music Festival, A-Trak’s “Sunglasses are a Must”, Stanton’s – “Step-By-Step” (instructional), “Tableturn’s - A Great Day In Turntablism”, the 2000 & 2001 USA/World DMC Championships, the 2001 ITF USA Championships, 2002 & 2003 USA and JAPAN ALLIES Invitational All Star Beatdown, and the upcoming ALLIES (untitled) self produced DVD.
Klever is presently working on collaborative projects that encompass the street culture lifestyle through music art and fashion. Between touring nonstop and his dedicated lab time, Klever is the dj to watch.

Dan Snakehead has been dominating dance floors for more than decade performing in Vancouver, Salt Spring Island, and for a little while Victoria (British Columbia, Canada). He is a certified Rythme Institute DJ (now school of mix) trained under Dj Marvel in 2004. He was a night club, after hours and house party dj for many years and competed in the Dj Mix Championships by invite aka the DMC’s (Whistler ‘05 and Victoria ‘05, ‘06 placing in all three events).
http://www.thedjlist.com (the worlds largest DJ directory) currently ranks him in the top 20 in Vancouver.
Dan Snakehead discovered his passion for electronic music in 1999 and started organizing electronic music events in 2001. As an amatuer it was hard for him to find work other than spur of the moment house parties or volunteer events that only paid in exposure. He has since played thousands of events from house parties and night clubs to big name concerts and it shows. He has “come up the hard way and paid his dues”.
He can play anything but normally plays Top 40, House, Hip Hop and Club music for night clubs. For outdoor events and massives he switches styles to Electro, Glitch, and Dubstep. He plays other stuff like Speed Garage, Trance, Breaks, Drum & Bass, 80’s, Rock, Metal, 90’s, electro swing, and of course scratch (the guy has invented scratch techniques). He is trained to play on anything : turn tables, cd decks, his laptop, even dvd players or cassette players, he’s so versatile, it’s sick. He says he spends about six hours a night checking obscure charts and researching online so that he always has the freshest tracks when he’s not playing. His creativity shines through in his mixes and his microphone skills, to say he can get a crowd going is an understatement.
In September of 2002 he founded a independant non-profit organization called “Last Minute Productions” dedicated to fund raising for local charities and youth crime prevention in his home town community (Salt Spring Island). Charities in his community like his local youth center, high school, and skate Park are on the recipient list. Last Minute Productions is still a well respected, functioning, non-profit organization in his home town community to this day with a small group of very dedicated vollunteers (reference Nathan Valcourt P.R. 250-537-8809).
The last charitable events he was invloved with “Shake it for the Quake” (reference Mya Hardman) which raised thousands for the Haitian Relief Foundation thru the Alchemi Living Atrs Collective That show dominoed into more events for breast cancer research and other fantastic causes, see Erotica Electronica and The Frightmare before Christmas.

“I have had horrid luck with regards to finding good placement agents, promoters, or really any kind of mutually beneficial situation to settle into” says Dan. “But you can’t give up, you just keep trying. After all, success only come to those who never give up on thier dreams, right?” This dedicated Dj’s dream is of regularly performing at stadium sized events. After September 4th’s “Sound Clash of the Titans” an outdoor massive, Return of the Titans, and hosting the third of the Sound Clash series over christmas Sound Clash of the Santas, this dj’s roster continues to build momentum. Though big shows are his dream, he says he will always crave the intimacy and sense of family with performing at smaller venues. Dan Snakehead has many unmentioned short term residencies under his belt all of which have ended on good terms but is still looking for the ideal sustainable, stable, situation. You can hear him perform live Thursdays on CFSI Salt Spring Radio 107.9fm or listen to live streaming audio at http://www.cfsi-fm.com from 10-12 midnight.
From ‘06 -‘09 he took a break from the dream to raise his son on Salt Spring Island as a single dad and performed for the local pubs. While there he organised more events and performed random house parties and outdoor events.
Pre-dating that he was at Barcode on Broadway (Vancouver) where he played hip-hop, breaks, and drum & bass wednesdays thru saturdays aswell as playing an after hours every night in Coquitlam (known only as the Glen House to a lucky few). Unfortunatey Barcode was closed down due to improper managment.
Prior to that he was the resident DJ at the City Limits Night Club in Abbotsoford where he opened and played with big named acts like the Trews and 2 Live Crew thru the generosity of Rockit-boy Entertainment..
Before that he was simultaneously employed as disc jockey for The Jungle Room and Monty’s Showroom (Victoria, Vancouver Island). At Monty’s Showroom on Wet T-Shirt Wednesdays he was also the Super Soaker Boy. He opted to leave the club due to the non-existant promotional team that is required to make successful nights. Before he left though, he refered the Jungle Room to Mother Bird Promotions (of White Bird Records) who took the nessecary initiative and now The Jungle Night Club is floureshing under the new name.
He’s played with everyone from Benny Benassi to The Sweat Shop Union, his gigography list is endless. Why he dosn’t have more singles out is probably because he’s always performing. Time for some label to scoop him up. He’s got tons of demo’s of really obscure stuff like Celtic Electronica Fusion, Rotterdam, Mash-Ups and Spoof Hip Hop aswell as Quack Hits (his dirty electro series, hear the first of four and his first three of eight Dubstep compilations here : http://www.ravevictoria.com/music/djsets.php?path=/Dan_Snakehead )

His quickly growing arsenal of original tracks and remixes now include releases with 7Stars Music, 4Play Trax, UNT! Records, OneWay, EUN, and TMR. His tracks have seen support from international heavy hitters including Roland Klinkenberg, Markus Schulz, Tony Thomas, M.I.K.E, Wally Lopez, Marcella, Anderson Noise, and Jesse Voorn, and after seeing his first track to break into the Beatport Top 100 in early 2012, his sound is increasingly in demand.
Starting out as the kid hauling his huge record bag to open decks, John quickly gained reputation across the Canadian Prairies for impeccable tight mixing blending sounds together for a unique approach to techno, minimal and tech house, but knowing no bounds with his playful track selection. Easily able to headline events with his signature jacking techno sound, or provide suitable warm-up for major international acts, John became the go-to DJ for such circumstances, and has opened for DJ Dan, Preach, Judge Jules and more - a testament to his versatility. With this, he began booking events with an increasing reach around the globe, and within a few short years he was playing the legendary Ministry of Sound. Notable gigs for John include MEME Festival, Gigalum (London UK), Y Afterhours, Toi Bar (Toronto CAN), Chemistry (Minneapolis USA), The Purple Room, Brainfest, and more. 2012 will see him play at the Amsterdam Dance Event and Interfusion Music Summit in Palm Springs, USA.
John has also created a mix series - The Original Language Global Session - to help his sound reach further across the globe. The OLGS has been hosted regularly on radio stations such as puredj.com in Holland, the former CityBeat Radio in Scotland, Undergroundradio.tv and Miami Beatz Radio in the US, and Canadian Techno.fm. In addition, his mixes have been featured on stations from England, Brazil, Croatia, Chile, Bulgaria, and was one of the final featured guests on DJ Preach’s Transatlantic Radio show who stated that John’s “mix of tech house will take you to a place you’ve never been”. Now in its second year, the monthly mix series continues to feature some of the finest house and techno available, and can be found in the iTunes podcast section.
You can expect John to push his productions and DJ sets to new heights as his obsession with sound continues, taking influence not only from electronic music history but also from the everyday and spreading his brand of music the world over.

Mesmerizing, passionate and stunning are just a few words that describe this hot talent in the house & electro DJ scene. Growing up with music was an important part of her life, she was able to truly appreciate the many avenues and genres. Playing the piano and having those classically trained roots contributed to her self-taught ability of picking up precise skills behind the decks.
Her natural ear for sounds makes djing & production in the studio perfect playgrounds for her creative and electrifying mixing skills. Exceeding expectations every performance, she has been described as one of the hardest working DJs in Canada. So it’s no surprise that Miss DJ Laela has become one of the fastest growing and highly sought after female DJs in the country. She holds many residencies around Western Canada including Whistler, Vancouver and Victoria nights, regular Revelstoke appearances, along with Banff and Calgary shows in AB.
Miss DJ Laela’s talents go far beyond her ability to lay down tracks, as she has been known to surprise the crowd by throwing in her alluring ‘Live Vocals’ over her tracks. Depending on the mood and desire of the crowd, you may catch her on the microphone and you will be amazed on a whole other level!! Her style reflects the sexiest, dirtiest house & electro beats in the club, so expect the dancefloors to be filled from start to end of the show.
She has supported MSTRKRFT, Sam La More (MOS Australia) and played alongside the likes of The Stafford Brothers (MOS Australia, Fox8 TV) and most recently Jamie Vale on a Red Bull Western Canada Tour. She also took the city of Victoria by storm on the main stage/venues at the 2009 & 2010 VEMF (Victoria Electronic Music Festivals), an annual summer festival with headliners DJ Dan, Donald Glaude and Starkillers to name a few. Between the 2010 Winter Olympics/Paralympics she performed in Vancouver & Whistler playing some of the hottest venues including Barcelona (Vancouver’s #1 voted Nightclub VNA 2010) and Gorgomish Afterhours, it was one of her favorite and most memorable tour experiences so far.
With each performance her domino effect occurs, making it’s way from venue to venue leaving one thing in common…a truly positive lasting impression! The result is her bookings branching out further away each time in higher demand. Networking at the highest level whenever and where ever she is has become her signature promoting herself as an artist. Recent exposure into the US market gained her representation on the talent roster of THUMP SOCIETY out of NYC, scouted by Reflex the agency owner and Resident DJ to Red Bull NYC. In Canada she’s signed with Symbiant Artist Management based out of Vancouver/Victoria BC.
Miss DJ Laela illuminates the decks, and should not to be missed if you have the opportunity to see her play. We are sure to see a lot more of this beautiful and talented DJ in the near future.
A technical artist, who unabashedly unleashes build-ups and bass lines that tear dance-floors to pieces, Marlee is not afraid to go toe-to-toe with the world’s best. A diverse little power house, Marlee fought her way to the top of BCs underground scene. She’s held several residencies including Sunset Room and Lucky Bar. She’s played alongside some of the worlds finest artists (Chris Liberator, Donald Glaude, DJ Dan, Jelo, Starkillers, Simply Jeff, Uberzone, John Howard). It is not uncommon to hear her seamlessly weld several different styles into one set. The results are a wicked down-right dirty romp through the electronic music world. Her numerous television appearances on MTV and A-Channel have thrown more fuel on the fire as Marlee, over 10 years into her DJ career, only seems to gain momentum. Professional party heads - prepare to get thumped…
DJ WOOD made his name in BC’s drum’n'bass scene, DJing at some of Vancouver Island’s earliest raves and promoting Victoria’s first d’n'b club nights, including debut appearences by old-timers like DJ Phantasy and Kenny Ken. Re-locating to Vancouver in 1999, Wood went on to host “Solar Bass”, HQ Communications’ radio show on Planet Aaj 96.1. He also held a residency at HQ’s “Tecknowledgy” club night where he supported world-class talent like Ray Keith, DJ SS and Bad Company.
After Solar Bass went off air, Wood & partners Link, Silence & Kotekan started their own radio show on the same station. “Sunday Sessions” gained a wide listenership throughout the lower mainland & Vancouver Island, and eventually spawned a club night of the same name at Sonar, Vancouver’s premier night spot at the time.
In addition to Sunday Sessions, Wood was also a resident DJ for “Zwack!” Fridays at Unit 20, an open-format club night where breaks, d’n'b and hip hop ruled the roost. It was here that Wood first made contact with his future collaborator DJ Soo, an aspiring turntablist & fellow drum’n'bass DJ. In agreeance that the drum’n'bass scene had grown stale and unimaginative, the duo launched a new club night at The Met Pub, “Bangers ‘n’ Mash”, that would allow them to explore their full range of musical taste.
After the cancellation of Bangers’n'Mash in late 2004, DJ Wood & DJ Soo were ready to step their game up to the next level. At a New Year’s Eve party called “Mangladesh”, the duo played together on 4 turntables, surprising even the most jaded partiers with their genre & tempo defying set. This set, re-recorded at Wood’s apartment later that month, became the duo’s debut mixtape and has gone on to become a world-wide cult classic. The duo have gone on to play venues all over Canada and support a wide variety of international acts including Stanton Warriors, Bassnectar, South Rakkas Crew and DJ Z-Trip.
The year 2005 saw the launch of Wood’s production career. Spurned by the success of their club nights & parties, local breakbeat crew TwentyHz Music were set to launch their record label. For their debut single, head-honcho DJ Soda chose the tune he had been opening his sets with for the past year - “Bun Dem” by DJ Wood. Wood went on to produce another track for the label, 2006’s “Poppa Large”. His third release, 2007’s “Eye No”, came out on the debut single for the UK ‘Nu Funk’ label Goodgroove Recordings. More releases for the now globally reknowned Goodgroove have ensued, along with a slot at the Canadian debut of their world wide Nu Funk club night “Regrooved”.
More recently, Wood has helped establish Super Happy Dance Deejays, a crew of veteran DJs who are making waves in Vancouver’s after hours scene. On the production front, Wood’s first digital release has come in the form of a remix for Ohio based artist Ruckus Roboticus, released March 2010 on the Dance Or Die label. Continuing his partnership with DJ Soo and as a solo artist, this seasoned performer shows no signs of slowing down!
What began as a simple love for music has grown into something much bigger. With a background in jazz trumpet, Phate took his love for hip hop and music knowledge, and began producing and DJing in 1998.
Producing his first DIY CD in 2001, Phate sold over 500 copies by simple word of mouth. This CD allowed him the opportunity to work with artists he would have never had.
Phate has since played along side such artists as T-Pain, Warren G, Naughty By Nature, A-Trak, Dirt Nasty, K’Naan, Kardinal Offishall, Isis from Thunderhiest, Swollen Members, The Beatnuts, Sweatshop Union, Karl Wolf and Moka Only to name a few.
Somewhere along the line, Phate gained a love for dance music. With a affinity for electro house, disco house and his own productions, Phate has become the man to call to make the kids dance.
You walk onto a dancefloor, the dj is going ballistic, the crowd is feeding off this infectious energy, the building erupts with dancefloor musical passion, Zarkonix is on the decks. There are 4 beats in a bar, and 4 bars in a phrase, but that’s not the only phrase in music. Fraser Evans, better known as Phrase, fell in love with music from a young age and has always been interested in shaping a certain sound. Attraction to broken beats brought him to where he is in the electronic music scene today. With several years of mixing and many more of drumming and various other instruments under his belt you can always expect fine rhythms. Even at only 17 years of age Phrase steps up to the deck and impresses, every time.

His initial popularity was assisted thanks in part to his legendary mixed series, “Time to Get Ill” and has continued to flourish though the release of remixes and singles such as “Hands,” “Aerobic Martini,” “Strobe Light,” and “Burnin”. He is a mainstay in the Top 100 on BeatPort and Top 10 on a number of other worldwide digital sites. In the past year Feelgood has had several releases on Major and Independent labels such as PornoStar, Instereo and Burn The Fire - remixing everything from Lady Gaga to P Diddy. In 2010 Feelgood launched his first podcast “Bumpin House Madness” – an ongoing series of hour-long mixes that showcases both his music as well as some of the music he adores. The podcast is available for download on iTunes (http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/charles-feelgoods-bumpin-house/id365599645). And it doesn’t stop there. In late 2011 Feelgood is launching his own indie imprint, Supa Cuts Recordings. This label will be an outlet for Feelgood to showcase his own productions as well a platform for new talent discoveries in the dance music community. Accolades such as repeatedly being named to DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs aside, Feelgood remains committed to lighting up dance floors around the world – summing up his musical mission in one sentence: “I just want to do what the name implies, to make people have a good time and go home with a great feeling”. Indeed.
After being inspired by the countless local events featuring local and international DJ’s, Matterson decided to take up the craft himself. Starting with the electro craze of the late ‘00 era, he first played parties for Sonica Late Nights and Westcoast Funktions where he learned much about the craft. As time moved forward, he started contributing to regional burning man events, growing into a more mature house sound in the process. Reaching into Funky, Jackin and Tech areas of House showcases his ever increasing development.
Whether he’s opening for international superstars like Tipper, Bassnectar,A skillz and the Freestylers; rocking a headlining slot at an outdoor party or providing backdrop beats in a local lounge, Generic is the kind of DJ who fully brings it, whatever the gig. His combination of technical skills (the guy has taken several Vancouver Island DJ competition titles), impeccable ear for crowd-rocking tunes and a fun-loving attitude makes Generic (nee Cole Magnusson) one of the Island’s most sough-after disc jockeys. Expect one of his sets to be chock-a-block with broken beats, glitch hop, drum and bass and dubstep—including some of his own tracks, edits and remixes—with plenty of cutting and scratching thrown in for good measure. With skills like that, it’s no surprise this 10-year vet behind the decks rarely goes a weekend without dropping a set
Olav creates a sonic experience with one half rolling, evocative, synthesized soundscapes, textures glimmering through light and dark passages and the complexity of the human voice; propelled by one half skittering, falter-funk 2 Step rhythms.
The Beat Junky Break Beat Island, 4TM, Dubhouse, D -Bloc The Beat Junky, aka Nick, has always had a love for music and dancing; finding Break Dancing in 1983, he began teaching, and competing on Vancouver Island. With this fueling his passion for the arts he grew to appreciate the many Genre’s of Electronic music. He began on home CD players in 1995; mixing Techno, House and Industrial, and progressed to turntables in 1996; primarily mixing Drum and Bass – and it was at this point that the Beat Junky came to life! The Beat Junky has played all over Vancouver Island, on the Main Land, as well as the Gulf Islands. With the formation of the Temple of Gong (T.O.G.), a small group of DJ’s that would ‘renegade’ parties, Nick was able to establish himself as a DJ, later to be know as the ‘Godfather of DnB on the Island’. He has opened for such names as: Freaky Flow, DJ Raw, Mat The Alien, The FreeStylers, Ill-Gates, Capital J, Heyoka , The Dirt Crew and more. He has also done shows with Herostraight playing live violin as well some projects involving turntabelists and Didgeridoos. In 2009 this die-hard vinyl lover gave in to our consumerist society, and valuing his love for music and his daughter Imajica he made the switch from vinyl to Serato. With the rise of the age of technology he could finally push himself even further developing new mixing techniques and an ability to access even more music on a global level. With obligations to his family, he made the switch. This has now proven to be a wonderful endeavor, for it has opened up a world full of new possibilities. Nick’s genres include, among the many: Drum-n-Bass (Raga, Jungle, Jump-up, Techstep, Hardstep, Liquid funk, Grime and now Drumstep & Halfstep); Dub-step; and Glitch-hop. If it has a broken beat he is not far away! As well as being a full time Dad, he is also a body piercer in Duncan, at Mike’s Tattoos; however Nick will not let life get in his way, for there is a new Beat on the rise, ready for anything that this industry has to offer him.

I am a DJ/Producer from Calgary, Alberta Canada. I have been DJing since 2002 and have been producing since 2008. I have been blessed enough to have had the chance to hold my own residencies at clubs within the city over the years. I have also been given some wonderful opportunities to warm-up for such acts as Kaskade, Laidback Luke, Mark Farina, Nick Warren, Andy Moor and Chromeo amongst others.
I first discovered my serious passion for music while dancing like Michael Jackson in my parents living room as a kid! It was so much fun and although I may not have fully understood it at the time, it was then that I realized music was the one thing in my life that created that feeling of connection with who I truly am. It would be a number of years later till I got decks but now looking back at the course of events that led up to me starting to DJ I can see how it all fits together perfectly.
I am currently attending Stylus College in New Westminster, BC for music production so keep your ears open for my newest productions and mixes.
Taking musical influence from the early-90’s rave scene, lessons from the pioneers of modern acid techno and an intimate knowledge of analogue synthesis and electronic sound hardware, MUX has created a style all his own. Driving and rhythmic, organic and aggressive, rowdy and fun, MUX blends a unique sound and a powerful stage presence into a performance that can only be described as live rave techno.
The Mazeguider has been an iconic figure in Vancouver’s tribal dance underground for nearly 15 years, playing festivals & events throughout Vancouver, B.C., and the Pacific Northwest. With sets that can take people out to the edge of time and awareness, the Mazeguider’s undeniable signature style reflects the sophistication of a music performer of nearly two decades.
As Bruce Lee famously taught how “emotional content” is everything, this description could be applied to the Mazeguider’s mixes. No fluff here. Only the cream of those pushing the edges outwards, mapping the uncharted territories of new electronic dance music that invites & compels us to feel something brand new and unmistakably delicious in our emotions, minds and bodies.
Currently, the Mazeguider’s dancefloor focus plays in the realms of Glitchhop, Glitchstep, Crunk & Midtempo Breaks. However, he maintains a strong hand in Techno, Tech-House, ElectroHouse, Breaks & Progressive, as well as a large range of Downtempo, and can throw down amply in any of these styles.
He has played festivals such as Entheos, Intention, Shambhala, the Oracle Gatherings, Earthdance, as well as events by Perception, Beats Without Borders, Beleaf, Playground and more. He has shared the stage with fine artists, such as Gaudi, Vibesquad, Cheb I Sabbah, Adham Shaikh, Bluetech, Noah Pred, Makyo, Souls of Mischief, and many more. As a speaker on Transformational Festivals he has presented at TEDxVancouver, Hollyhock, Entheos, Beloved, Symbiosis, Shambhala Festival, and more.
To be at the helm of the big stereo, transmitting the frequencies, while the tribe gathers in the time-honoured rituals of celebration, is a privileged place to hold. Each set represents a constantly renewed possibility for the community gathered to rekindle our ecstasy, remember our connectedness and rejuvenate our life-forces. And then, sometimes, it’s just about having the right music for the occasion. Whichever way it goes down, the Mazeguider brings a special, alchemical offering to the mix that is the guarantee of a journey to remember…
Native to Saltspring Island, growing up in East Van and other parts of Canada is what gave Someone Special his street-wise influence.
Interested in urban dance music and music-based technology since a very early age, Someone Special attended his first break dance class at the tender age of 5 while living in the small Arizona town of Wickenburg. From 1999 to 2008 Someone Special was known as Deep Rollers and performed Live Electronic PA in various venues across Canada such as Fluid Lounge (Nelson), SKY (Night Club Montreal), Beaver Point Hall (Saltspring Island). Starkillers is best known for his signature blend of catchy vocals, booming bass lines and genre-defying range. From New York to Japan, Starkillers has had a massive impact on the world of electronica. The Las Vegas native is best known as the man behind the MASSIVE hits Discoteka & Scream. Discoteka was the very first track released under his Starkillers alias and lived at the top of the Billboard Dance and Beatport sales charts, named an “Essential Selection” on Pete Tong’s BBC1 radio show, nominated for best underground track at the IDMAs, and supported by almost every major DJ out there. But the track’s success simply encouraged the hard working producer to get his ass back into the studio and create a world of music his friends and fans have come to recognize him for.
Starkillers has an impressive list of musical accomplishments: he runs the record label Terratraxx that he started in 2002, has produced a ton of original productions and done an equally impressive number of high profile remixes. Done both in his own name and under pseudonyms such as Starkillers, Killers & Rockers, Detroit Millionaires and his own real name Nick Terranova. His hits include remixes of Armand Van Helden, iiO, The D.O.N.S Robbie Rivera, Paul Oakenfold, Dj Dan,Dj Chus, Space Cowboy, Carmen Electra, Paul Van Dyke, Shinny Toy Guns, Dj Rap, Ida Corr, Nadia Ali, And many more.
Capping out the end of the year in 2009 and moving into 2010 Starkillers put up 2 of the top 25 best selling tracks on Beatport for 2009, with a #1 Spot for Starkillers vs Arman Van Helden “The funk Phenomena” and a # 3 spot with Starkillers “Bitch assTrick”, both charted on the top 25 at 15 and 25 and were hailed as instant classics in the dance music scene. Putting forth this kind of effort and throwing down this kind of heat, Starkillers has become one of the most sought after producers in the game. So look out for his name and brand cause chances are he will be in your city soon.
Nate Jones has always had a strong love for music. Since the age of five when he first tickled the ivories, to when he touched his first Tech 12 at 17. This household Victoria name from years gone by spent several years in Vancouver with residencies at numerous lounges, and gracing such clubs as the infamous Lotus. Nate’s been keeping a low profile since returning to Victoria. He spends his time writing new tracks for record labels and honing his producer skills. Summer has arrived and it’s time for this DJ/Produce/Musician to come out of hibernation.
Despite having only made music for five years, Calgary’s Bleach Fiend has managed to switch genres no less than three times. “At first it was ambient, Boards of Canada stuff,” he recalls. “I did that for a while. And then it turned into acid house, when I put out Cosmonaut in late 2010… but now I have no idea what genre my kind of music is.”
Mr. Class, Bleach Fiend’s 2012 EP, does a good job of complimenting that statement. Including influence from old-school house, modern-day techno, and bizarrely, left field hip-hop, the record showcases Bleach Fiend at his most schizophrenic. This inability to conform seems to work to his advantage, allowing for music that appeals to the living room listener as well as to the more open-minded DJ.

K3V (formerly DJ Kev) lives for the filth. With a sound based in Filthy Electro House, K3V constantly blends this with the dirtiest of Dubstep, Breaks, Glitch and even some Drum and Bass to create his signature sound which has been wowing audiences all over North America, Australasia, and the world. K3V pushes the limits of every genre he plays with his heavy, crunchy and filthy sound, and has taken hold of every dance floor he’s play for, making him an extremely popular act wherever he’s performed. Also adding in live PA keyboarding and an unmatchable stage presence into each of his sets, he creates a completely unique and spectacular performance that grabs hold of the crowd and delivers an experience that leaves you craving for more.
K3V has been a featured act at many major music festivals across western North America over the past few years, including Shambhala, Motion Notion and Astral Harvest. For these two young bassheads(spaceheads?) Dubstallion & Pinktaco from Calgary, Alberta. Turntables fell from the sky and without question they accepted the task of
spreading the sounds of the deep, dark, twisted, dirt’ riddims. With massive amounts of THC and alcohol consuming their bloodstream, they always
appear half drunk but don’t be fooled by these two, they keep it dirty yet simple, and the club bouncing all night.
With only one and a half years of experience, Dubstallion & Pinktaco are only progressing without limitations, soon to be followed by massive releases by
the SQUAD themselves. Enough with the text, listen to the MUSIC @ http://soundcloud.com/squalidsquad/
