As 1/4 of the group Define Audio which is currently signed to Rottun Records. Beatsmith is also known to drop the funk real hard in his solo preformances. He is a very well rounded producer who plays and produces everything from liquid drum & bass & funk to heavy bangin breaks and mid tempo tracks. He has upcoming releases coming out with Critical and Hedrok currently pursuing the mid tempo funky bass genre. With other 6 years of beat making with experience in running his own hip hop studio and having produced beats for many rappers and even a few albums he is very interested by the hip hop influenced ghetto funk sound and wishes to pursue it to his full extent.
Brent first got into electronic dance music in early 1998, being so drawn in by this sound he needed to be a part of it and purchased his first set of turntables by summer. His love for big basslines and skippy beats attached his interests to this genre they were calling speed garage. As one of the original and rare Garage DJs on Vancouver Island d-Set has been playing clubs, music festivals, and parties all over western Canada for the last 14 years. He has been producing his own music now since 2007 and with a few years of production behind him now you are sure to hear a number of d-Set originals during his sets. It’s always a treat to experience how his energy makes an entire dance floor go off when he steps up in front of a crowd. He has some serious skills when it comes to track selection and reading a crowd! Super sweet ...and melodic vocals mixed with an undeniable dirty bassline. Over the years Brent has had the pleasure of open for names like Dig-Dug, Soulfix, Czech, Will Bailey, Mighty Fools, Donald Glaude, DJ Dan, and Stupid Fresh. He is an island favourite who is not to be missed.
Olav is a DJ / Producer / Electronic Artist who now holds residence in Vancouver B.C.
He credits his older brother for exposing him to electronic music through the mid-aught Vancouver Island rave scene.
“Those were happy times.” He laments.
By the latter 2000’s and as a member of ‘Team Rocket’, Olav launched onto the Victoria B.C. club circuit and the trio annihilated dance floors as the city was ravaged by an electro house epidemic.
Shortly thereafter he formed and fronted the noted dance rock band ‘Ice Climbers’, of which he was lead lyricist and singer.
Olav now writes and produces his own bizarre strain of synth’d out computer music, and DJ’s an assortment of house, techno, bass and UK garage.
I started out playing outdoor end-of-the-year concerts for Community Colleges around my home town of NYC. When I moved to BC for school, I fell in love with the house music scene, specifically people’s appreciation for good house music here. My goal every set, whether it’s at a house party or stage is to give people the most entertaining experience as they listen an dance to the beats I am so passionate about.
I started DJing in 2008 with a volunteer radio show called Electroflux on CFUR in Prince George, BC. The show lasted a year and half, and since then I’ve done a couple of house parties. All the while, I’ve been practicing my production work, and I plan to release an EP by the end of the summer.

The Slag is not a vitreous by-product, a Transformer, or even a British whore. It’s an exciting new star in the electronic world. Exploding into the scene in 2010 on Donald Glaude’s Eden Recordings, the Slag has gone on to have a number one single on TrackItDown, a huge number of chart toppers on Beatport, and collaborations with some of the biggest names in the industry. He’s been featured in MixMag, Trashbagkids, Hypem, TrackItDown, Weekly Indie and Wicked Style magazine. Not to mention syndicated by IGN, voted first place in the Universal Records K-Os remix competition, and has official remixes for the likes of Metric, JELO, Paul Anthony, Soulfix, and the Wobble Giants just to name a few.
Whilst he has recently been recognized for his productions, the Slag has been an international DJ for some time. Including residencies at some of the largest clubs in Japan; ageHa and Atom. As part of the electronic sensation D2, the Slag and J-Ling won numerous awards in Tokyo for their high energy performances as they toured the country. They were also featured prominently on iFlyer magazine, the largest dance publication in the country.
Upon returning to North America, the Slag began working on his first solo productions. At the tail end of 2010 The Slag’s work caught the eye of Donald Glaude’s Eden Recordings who released his first album “Blasphemy”. Nearly 4 months after its release it maintained the top position on Eden’s Beatport top 10 selling tracks. Following its success he continued to release a series of chart topping singles on numerous labels. Teaming up with Champion Beats near the end of 2010 saw the release of the “Midnight Express EP”, which received enormous critical praise and commercial success. The music video for ‘Hit The Record Button’ was syndicated by IGN Entertainment, and received 6000 views in the first day alone. Adam Glassco aka “Flinch”, has been in the studio lately cooking up a lot of hot and heavy bass music. Producing since 2000 he got his start in the Drum and Bass scene. Experimenting with different sounds over the years Flinch ended up co-founding an electro group called True Pseudo in 2007. Flinch currently produces dubstep and pretty much anything with a sick baseline and a fat beat.
Most noteworthy are his collaboration remixs with 12th Planet of Jinder’s “Youth Blood” on NYCs Trouble and Bass and Dave Nadas “Appocolypse Theame” wich have been played by such djs as dubstep icons SKREAM and PLASTICIAN to NU Electro bad boys DESIGNER DRUGS and French tastemaker BUSY P. After being inspired by the countless local events featuring local and international DJ’s, Matterson decided to take up the craft himself. Starting with the electro craze of the late ‘00 era, he first played parties for Sonica Late Nights and Westcoast Funktions where he learned much about the craft. As time moved forward, he started contributing to regional burning man events, growing into a more mature house sound in the process. Reaching into Funky, Jackin and Tech areas of House showcases his ever increasing development.
I guess this is the part where I start rambling about my dj’ing career thus far.
Ive been a bedroom dj for over two years now, going out and playing for crowds for about a year and a half, my sensai djs who have shown me the up and ups are skian, gary khan and walffulz.
Ive played twice at carrington music festival and have made a few trips to Tofino to play at some bars there, also any north island rave you can normally count me to be mixing at some point in the night.
Im fairly versatile in my style, If you check out my soundcloud ive made a small mix with just Nu-swing style music, but I normally play dubstep, electro house, glitch hop, and add a dash of funk in there
oh and DnB cant forget about DnB haha
So I would love it if you considered me to represent the north island for you!
It was a dance party in an industrial zone of Vancouver that was Florian’s introduction to electronica, and he immediately knew he wanted to get involved with the scene. Quickly thereafter he was getting involved in all sorts of events, from indoor shows to multi-day outdoor festivals includin…g Shambhala, In:Vision, Diversity, and Entheos. When Florian was 16, he began investigating the alchemy of beats, basslines and melody—seeking the transformative quality they hold on a dancefloor with the potential to unify each person into the interactive whole. He’s studied the domains of dub, breaks, glitch, trance, and house in all it’s forms with great dilligence, and now uses these modules to deliver a potent blend of sonic bliss that draws each individual into the dancefloor experience. Climbing the ranks from partier, to waste management, to harm reduction, to event planning, Florian is now a budding producer, promoter, and manager of Sunset Room - Victoria’s only all hours dance venue. Stay tuned for lots more from this committed & growing addition to the BC scene!

Using strange techniques and savage track selection, Mr. Majestic’s sets are often a bizarre event, resulting in complete mayhem. He’s been pinned as one to watch in the near future showcasing interesting mixes and swaps between genres in his unpredictable sets.
with 3 years of experience on the tables, Mr Majestic is a very technical Dj that throws down a combination of Electro, Dubstep and Disco in an manner that can only be described as “Devastating”. With the intentions of mass destruction to dance-floors everywhere, there’s no stopping Mr. Majestic’s onslaught for global domination.

Started getting involved with music since 1993, first playing guitar in a couple of metal bands in Mexico, then shifted to amateur trance producing and since 2002 mixing psytrance at various private parties at Mexico.
Since an early age Frantiq has been interested in all things music and audio related, and he shares these passions whenever he can. The catalyst of this came when he discovered the art of DJ’ing through old school hip-hop DJ’s and turntablists. Soon after being introduced to the diverse world of electronic music the two became one and the same from then on.
Frantiq has been DJ’ing for events and dance floors throughout western Canada since 2000. In his mixes he takes the skills and techniques of turntablism and applies them to a wide and eclectic range of musical styles. Conscious of the vibe he carefully selects each tune and mixes them together with the care of a craftsman to blend music and sound to create a journey and new experience for his audiences. Expect to hear the unexpected as he shares everything good under the sun, arranged and mixed from the ears of one music lover to another (you).

What began as a simple love for music has grown into something much bigger. With a background in jazz trumpet, Phate took his love for hip hop and music knowledge, and began producing and DJing in 1998.
Producing his first DIY CD in 2001, Phate sold over 500 copies by simple word of mouth. This CD allowed him the opportunity to work with artists he would have never had.
Phate has since played along side such artists as T-Pain, Warren G, Naughty By Nature, A-Trak, Dirt Nasty, K’Naan, Kardinal Offishall, Isis from Thunderhiest, Swollen Members, The Beatnuts, Sweatshop Union, Karl Wolf and Moka Only to name a few.
Somewhere along the line, Phate gained a love for dance music. With a affinity for electro house, disco house and his own productions, Phate has become the man to call to make the kids dance.
A DJ/Producer from Victoria, Canada; who isn’t sorry for party rockin’
Mr. Goodcat’s been deep in the music scene since his early teens. His interest in electric and acoustic guitar shifted when he got his first taste of electronic music in 2008, and from there history writes itself. Moving from the small party scene to performing at large venues in front of even larger crowds, he’s blessed the stage with well known BC rappers like Snak the Ripper and Mad Child (of Swollen Members fame), and the Outlawz. You can expect a fresh blend of bass heavy dub, dnb, breaks, electro and funk, that’ll keep the dance floor jumpin’
Chord’s philosophy is simple: play good music. His style flows through deep dub and minimal to house and techno — a slow burn of building rhythms accelerating into an intoxicating blend. Moving from making killer mixed tapes for friends to playing records for local parties, his easygoing demeanour continues to engage audiences at clubs, festivals, and on his weekly web radio broadcast DUB:fuse (dub.ca). Chord’s DJ sets return focus to the music as its own spectacle, with intuitively constructed sets that play out with a constrained and powerful force. His influences range from early dub, ambient, stripped-down minimal, jackin’ house, and ground-shaking techno.
Starkillers is best known for his signature blend of catchy vocals, booming bass lines and genre-defying range. From New York to Japan, Starkillers has had a massive impact on the world of electronica. The Las Vegas native is best known as the man behind the MASSIVE hits Discoteka & Scream. Discoteka was the very first track released under his Starkillers alias and lived at the top of the Billboard Dance and Beatport sales charts, named an “Essential Selection” on Pete Tong’s BBC1 radio show, nominated for best underground track at the IDMAs, and supported by almost every major DJ out there. But the track’s success simply encouraged the hard working producer to get his ass back into the studio and create a world of music his friends and fans have come to recognize him for.
Starkillers has an impressive list of musical accomplishments: he runs the record label Terratraxx that he started in 2002, has produced a ton of original productions and done an equally impressive number of high profile remixes. Done both in his own name and under pseudonyms such as Starkillers, Killers & Rockers, Detroit Millionaires and his own real name Nick Terranova. His hits include remixes of Armand Van Helden, iiO, The D.O.N.S Robbie Rivera, Paul Oakenfold, Dj Dan,Dj Chus, Space Cowboy, Carmen Electra, Paul Van Dyke, Shinny Toy Guns, Dj Rap, Ida Corr, Nadia Ali, And many more.
Capping out the end of the year in 2009 and moving into 2010 Starkillers put up 2 of the top 25 best selling tracks on Beatport for 2009, with a #1 Spot for Starkillers vs Arman Van Helden “The funk Phenomena” and a # 3 spot with Starkillers “Bitch assTrick”, both charted on the top 25 at 15 and 25 and were hailed as instant classics in the dance music scene. Putting forth this kind of effort and throwing down this kind of heat, Starkillers has become one of the most sought after producers in the game. So look out for his name and brand cause chances are he will be in your city soon.
Craze’s life is a legacy of rags to riches, geek to chic, no-name to world fame. He never had it easy – from fleeing battle in Nicaragua at the age of 3 to a geeky adolescence to Hurricane Andrew hitting Miami in 1992 – nor did have ever have any coattails to ride; his is a story that’s an uphill battle, but a story that ends right at the top. “My mom always taught me I could do anything I put my mind to. So when she asked what I wanted to do with my turntables, I told her, ‘Be the best DJ in the world,’” Craze casually laughs. And that he proved – 3 times at the DMC World Championships, an unprecedented record, and a title that no other solo DJ has yet to match. While Craze is regarded internationally and unquestionably as one of the best scratch DJs in the world, it’s still astonishing to see his overwhelming number of titles on paper: Craze has won first place for the USA DMC Championships in 1998, World ITF Scratch Off Championships in 1998, ITF Western Hemisphere Scratch Off Championships (1998, ‘99), Winter Music Conference Scratch Off Champion (1996, ‘97, ‘98, ‘99), East Coast DMC Championships (1997), East Coast Rap Sheet Championships (1996) and Zulu National Championships (1995, ‘96), to name but a few. Additionally, DJ Craze claimed 2nd place in the first DMC Team Championship with his Allies’ crew (which included fellow champions A-Trak and Infamous) in 1999 – and then in 2000, the Allies’ won the Team Championship title, taking it from the previous year’s winners the Scratch Perverts.
“I won the DMC’s when I was 20. I joined the Regionals, won that, Nationals, won that, and then won the Worlds. And I took it from A-Trak – that’s right! But he was only like 15 when I beat him. I was still scared. Then in that year, in ‘98 when I beat A-Trak in the [DMC] Worlds, I didn’t wanna battle no more and I thought he’d be the icing on the cake, so instead we formed the Allies and we kicked everybody’s butt. “ – Craze
On top of his untouchable turntablist skills and scratch champion showmanship, the world has also recognised that Craze is a second to none club DJ – he has toured the globe over, from Jamaica to Australia to Japan to Iceland to France to the country he was born, Nicaragua. All DJing aside, Craze is also a world- renowned producer, releasing wildly successful drum’n'bass records with labels such as Cartel Recordings, Breakbeat Kaos, and C.I.A and other hip hop inspired productions with the likes of DMC Records, Ninja Tune Records, OM Records and K7 Records. It’s the respect from both DJs and audiences alike that has paved Craze’s seamless move between hip hop and turntablism to drum’n'bass – both serious subzero clique/cult scenes the globe over demanding much of any artist trying to peddle their wares worldwide; to what now sounds like club-style Miami bass, formed with the technical love of hip hop with clean cuts and ridiculously dextrous scratching, but a mix up of straight up rap, ghettotech, raw booty house, old-school electro, Baltimore/Miami bass crossover and sweaty lo-end dancefloor music, making it all but impossible to keep still. This is Craze – the man who arguably defined his hometown Miami turntablism scene, only to return now to reinvent this take on the Miami sound; a neo-genre of his own special blend of every which way club codes from the ghosts of discos past, present and future.
The past year for Calex has been a time for refinement of his unique sound. The vibe that Calex brings to any party is not found amongst many Vancouver DJ’s; he takes elements of house, techno, progressive and tech-house to weave his own blend of sonic destruction. While his love affair with electronic music started only 6 years ago, he has immersed himself as few have. This has led to Calex playing alongside the best that western Canada has to offer, including Shiloh, AFK and Joel Armstrong. Spending 14 months overseas Calex was able to learn the fine art of floor shattering as he held down a twice-weekly residency. These experiences, his consistently evolving sound and the need to spread his passion with the audience has made Calex popular around the globe amongst his peers and the dancers.

So what’s a roots/singer songwriter have to do with Electronic music?
“I started dabbling with records and DJing back in 2003 when I was living in a little house by the beach. We’d have parties on the weekends and hire DJs, pack the place and dance all night ‘til the morning. After one of the parties, a DJ left his tables and two crates of vinyl in my kitchen for a week… so one night I set it all up and started playing. Its been a secret love of mine ever since.
I love the feeling of finding new tracks and creating new feelings through the music, its something that touches a side of live production I’ve yet to find while performing with my band. Its a whole new colour to paint with, and I’m loving the journey.”

His first experience with dance music was early 2000 island raves, where breakbeats were still king. Initially drawn to downtempo and psytrance, he eventually embraced all forms of electronica. His dj sets now sway somewhere between funky minimal, smooth house, full-on or midtempo ...psytrance, ambient soundscapes, future bass, glitchstep, psybient/psydub, downtempo groove..funkidelic breaks, jazz, comedy, peanut butter and jelly….

Wether it be his infectious live act (that recently seen him take 1st place in the 2010 Hush DJ Challenge), or his ability of being able to craft ass-shaking tunes in the studio, It’s no surprise he’s had the opportunity to share the stage with some of the worlds top acts (A Skillz, Rusko, Krafty Kuts, Featurecast, Jack Beats, Boy 8 Bit, Nick Thayer, the Freestylers, MSTRKRFT, Freq Nasty, Pimpsoul, Fort Knox Five, Deekline, Farace, Parker, Mat the Alien, Busta, Stickybuds, J-Roc, and Ed 209 to name a few) When you get this guy behind the decks you can expect a high energy blend of everything from Disco to Drum and Bass. With a touring schedule in 2010 that took him around B.C. and Alberta, gigs at major festivals like Soundwave, VEMF, and Rifflandia, a remix for Jpod’s label (Swing Set Sounds) and some Bootlegs that quickly hit the top of the Hype Machine and Soundcloud charts; Steve is officially warmed up. With support from the likes of Excision, Datsik, Featurecast, Pimpsoul, Fort Knox 5, Stickybuds, Busta, Slynk etc etc… It’s safe to say the future is indeed very bright for this guy—they don’t call him Neon Steve for nothing.

Doomwork may be summed up and identified in one single term: “unconventional”. Musically grown in the early years of the new millennium – when Italian dance had its point of apex- Alessandro and Claudio started to looking for darker sonority ; the path for the discovering of Detroit’s “Techno” music scene and its founders was short: Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Jeff Mills. Shortly after, their tin ear brought them to the so called “Big Beat” and its facets: Synth Rock, Funk, Hip Hop (Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, Prodigy). At the same time they started to be interested into the Chicago House movement, born in the first half of the 80’s. Alessandro and Claudio decided collaborating together in 2008 and thus giving start to the Doomwork project. They soon reached the top of the Beatport chart, the famous reference portal of world modern club culture, with the song “Isla” first (two months n°1 in the deep house chart),and “Jazzy Stuff” then (two months n°1 in the general chart, resulting as the top selling record of 2009) and scoring again with “Groovin” (one month n°1 in the deep house chart, boasting one of the world deep house guru’s remix: Milton Jackson). In 2010 they are among the nominees of the Beatport Awards in the “the best deep house track” session, obtaining a second price with their track “Lost in memory”. All their productions constantly get positive feedbacks from the most important djs of the techno world scene as Carl Cox, Loco Dice, Karotte, 2000andOne, Radioslave, Satoshi Tomiee and many more. Their musical output brought them not only fame, but also drawn the attention of the biggest expertise of the international “scene” : Dylan Hermelijm (aka 2000andOne), chief of Planet Gong (one of the most estimate European organization), is one of them. He decided to remix and release the track “Andromeda” on the historic dutch techno label 100%PURE. The track went “on air” on BBC radio during Pete Tong broadcast “Essential Mix”, and then was released in the compilation “Wonderland” for Pete Tong’s label “Defected Records”, “Andromeda” thus became one of the most important project of the duo. Many of their works are included in the most important compilations : Space Ibiza comp. , Privilege Ibiza comp. , Cavo Paradiso “Definitons” vol. 10 (mixed by Satoshi Tomiee) , Campari Sunset ,released by Sony Music to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the famous drink. They have been performing in clubs all over the world since 2009; Air Club (Tokio) for the Redbull Master Night, Q Club (Zurich) , Tenax ( Florence), Goa (Rome), Elrow 14 (Barcelona), Bullit Club (Monaco), are only some of the clubs the duo perfomed in. Despite this intense working period, they managed to focus on their live set, a music container that ranges from “deep” and “techno”, “electro” and “house”, “prog” and “hip hop”, and brought to life their own musical purpose, in order to create a bond between the artist and the dance floor. The project immediately received positive feedbacks, and met the dancefloor during the “Amsterdam Dance Event 2010” where it can be brought to the audience in the setting of the famous “Studio 80” . Since then it became part of the “Saw Recordings” tour, Satoshi Tomiee and Hector Romero’s label. At the end of a busy 2010, the 2011 seems to be hectic either, with the launch of their own label “Retouch Recordings”, with the new projects that seem to be more important than the previous years, a new 100%PURE release and the debut on “Audiomatique”, Steve Bug’s label (Trentemoller latest album was released on the same label, just for the record), and together with their first concept album soon to be made, we’ll hardly see them enjoying a cocktail

I started using FL studio and other trackers since high school and have since incorporated more software and toys into the mix including analog gear and Max/MSP. Walker and I were in a few bands and became a duality in 2007. Haven’t looked back since. We’ve been lambasted on CBC, spun on college radio and headlined youth music festivals up island.
With big beats, tube guitars and epic vocals we’ve played over twenty club shows and have opened for various touring acts. We’re also Victoria’s upcoming premier party band having rocked the Cooked Street University for the Study of Rad Phenomena and CarpetLand, a satellite state of the Ministry of Casual Living and oft pumped by Maven’s Vintage.
Started his career as a DJ 2 years ago in the city of Victoria BC. After months of saving money he finally bought his first dj set for 800 dllrs in used victoria. This set included 1 denon cdj dns1000, 1 stanton cdj c324 1 two-channel stanton mixer.
With no headphones and no speakers the journey started…
Due to monetary issues Dj Alegro had to use an rca cable to plug his mixer into his tv. And due to his passion for bass he blew up the tv speakers….
However, about 10 days after the tv incident his sister gave him his first pair of headphones as a birthday gift and he received a pair of speakers from his parents.
Finally the Set up was complete.
After 1 month of practicing he had his first gig. A 100 people private party. After this day, he knew what he wanted to do with the rest of his life.
Making people dance is not just satisfactory for the fact that you are doing your job right. It is satisfactory because YOU KNOW that your personal problems are not an issue at the moment and the same thing happens with your audience.
It does not matter what your going through at that point in your life, when the music starts the sadness stops.
After a couple gigs hard-work started to pay off and after a couple months the cdjs 900 and the cdm 800 from pioneer were in my bedroom.
When 2011 started i realized that i do not want to be only a DJ i want to become a producer of my own work and that is why i have moved to Mexico City where i will be attending to a Music University where they teach you all about producing.
I attended VEMF last year and unfortunately i was not on time to submit an application form. I still had a great time and this year i hope i can be a part of it.
As a DJ, producer, and radio host; Synba lives his craft every day . “Listening for 8 hours a day for the rest of my life I could only scratch the surface of the amazing musical content out there! I’ve always had eclectic taste; finding where the extremes resonate and where craziness becomes music is my favorite part.” Born on Vancouver Island he spent his early years involved in musical and theatrical projects. While in high school he was given the keys to a professional theatre and sound system. As his seat in the classroom was often found empty, he could be found in the theatre working with dancers, musicians, and visual artists alike. He now spends his days in search of the sounds that supplements your pulse.

Youn1que: 22 and spinning all types of electronic music from Victoria, BC. Youn1que (Chris Ooms) has been making monthly mixes and mash ups of fresh new electro to fine tune his mixing skills. He likes to think of his mixing as an alchemy, conceptually blending genres to create melodies that will string the notes of your emotions, build ups that will elevate you to ecstatic heights, and fat basslines that will get you rockin!! Youn1que grew into EDM from first listening to psy-trance such as Infected Mushroom & Astrix because he loved their creativity with sounds and melodies, as it grew on him he expanded his genres to progressive/electro/deep house, psychedelic, and moombahton to experience more perspectives of dance music. Having a wide range of interest in music and a keen ear for what people like to hear, you can expect to hear a very dynamic and energetic mixing style that will take you through an uplifting and magical journey through sound!
DJ Xcite: New to the DJ scene but definitely not new to music, Dj Xcite (Dylan Belanger, 22) has been producing electro music for 3 years, he also has 12 years of experience on the guitar to help form the complex electro rhythms that he produces today. He uses Reason 5.0, Ableton and Massive to produce his music, and upbeat melodies is all you’ll find coming out of his speakers when DjXcite is behind the decks. Producers such as Far Too Loud, Knife Party, Skrillex, Alex Mind, Feed Me, Designer Drugs, Astrix etc. are major inspirations to him and continue to fuel the journey to become a better producer/DJ.
Chord’s philosophy is simple: play good music. His style flows through deep dub and minimal to house and techno—a slow burn of building rhythms accelerating into a smouldering bass climax.
As half of the production team OVERCAST SOUND, he has played live sets at international shows including in Berlin, the Biennial of the Americas, MUTEK, and the upcoming inaugural Aguilar Dubtechno Festival in the south of France (September 2011).

With over a decade invested into the Vancouver Island scene, Mike has been established as one of the most reliable DJs around. New genres have come and gone but what makes Mykee unique is his ability to acquire the best music from all things Electronica. Whether it’s House, Electro, Breaks or Techno, Mike can read a crowd and knows exactly what to play.
Mike is also one of the only active DJs today that played at the very first VEMF in 2001. He’s been a loyal supporter of the festival since day 1. With his production company, “Reliable Entertainment” he’s managed to build a large following not only as a DJ but as a promoter, bringing out international artists to our very own Hush Nightclub in Victoria.
As far as CD releases go, there are only 2 known mixes that Mike has released. He likes to keep people guessing with what he plays and not be labeled to a specific genre. One of the CDs Mike released was, “Mykee - Just Do it” a few years ago and has gone on to still be one of the most popular mixes by any DJ on Vancouver Island. With that said, Mike has promised to release a, “Just Do it Vol. 2” while playing at this year’s VEMF. So make sure you’re up front to grab a copy!
With a residency at Hush, ongoing gigs at Sunset Room, and being booked almost every weekend at dance parties, DJ Mykee has been recognized as the most on demand DJ on the Island. Be sure to check out his set at VEMF 2011!

Born and raised on the West Coast of Canada, Chronikal (Alistair Stewart..or just Al to his friends) has been writing and performing music since age 8, when he picked up his first guitar. While his style has changed since then, Al’s love for the uplifting vocal melodies and savage basslines that get any crowd on their feet has remained consistent throughout.
With his first European tour now complete, and a host of releases on UK record labels (Fokuz, Grin Recordings, Definite Grooves), Chronikal is quickly carving a name for himself in the world dance music scene. Al’s debut release under his DnB alias ‘Nightvision’ achieved impressive support across the UK and Europe, receiving regular airplay on BBC Radio and spending 8 weeks in the Beatport DnB Top 100 chart. His remixes for Definite Grooves and The So Called Scumbags have been heard in a number of Ibiza’s world-famous venues including Space, Pacha, and Amnesia, as well as BBC and other UK and European radio stations. Refusing to limit himself to one, or even two genres, Al’s most recent Dubstep collaboration with Hardcore Beats’ Ed209 under the alias ‘Rough Child,’ is already gaining massive support, with their debut EP scheduled for release later this year on Excision’s Rottun Recordings.
Chronikal’s live sets are much like his original production – diverse, and aggressive. The constant double drops, and seamless shifts between genres never fail to get the dancefloor on their feet, and leave them begging for more when he drops his final track.
Now, having returned to Canada after 4 years in England with an impressive track record of gigs and releases across Europe and the UK, Chronikal is ready to take North America by storm.
Joy Kitikonti was born in Tuscany. He felt immediately a great passion for music when he was young, probably influenced by his father, a musician during 60’s 70’s. His career began in 80’s, he was a self taught musician, skilful with the battery and percussion instruments. Joy is a polyhedric artist with several discographic successes, important partnerships and awards in his background. All these experiences made him the complete artist of today. His underground vocation comes from those boundary territories, where music means fun, not just money, where friendship among the artists goes further than the interests of the music industry. Joy has already released hundreads of tracks during the latest years, both under his real name and under different pseudonyms. Joy Kitikonti is a complete artist and he has a deep musical background, he’s really appreciated by his collegues for his creative fantasy and his original sound. He’s really requested also as remixer.

Despite having only made music for five years, Calgary’s Bleach Fiend has managed to switch genres no less than three times. “At first it was ambient, Boards of Canada stuff,” he recalls. “I did that for a while. And then it turned into acid house, when I put out Cosmonaut in late 2010… but now I have no idea what genre my kind of music is.”
Mr. Class, Bleach Fiend’s 2012 EP, does a good job of complimenting that statement. Including influence from old-school house, modern-day techno, and bizarrely, left field hip-hop, the record showcases Bleach Fiend at his most schizophrenic. This inability to conform seems to work to his advantage, allowing for music that appeals to the living room listener as well as to the more open-minded DJ.
Hailing originally from San Jose california, now residing in Victoria BC, G. Bass was introduced into the world of electronic music in 05’ when attending Shamabhala music festival. Since then he has been HOOKED and ADDICTED to soul twisted basslines. what started with a passion for DnB, electro, and breaks turned into a wide range of styles of the west coast bass scene in the California bay area and all over British Columbia into the glitch, midtempo, ghetto funk, and future sounds of indescribable tweaked beats. Anything twisted with a deep desire to make people loose their minds or feel at peace, from the most raging bangers or to the most soul melting basslines, from 50bpm to 170bpm and beyond it does not matter.
There are 4 beats in a bar, and 4 bars in a phrase, but that’s not the only phrase in music. Fraser Evans, better known as Phrase, fell in love with music from a young age and has always been interested in shaping a certain sound. Attraction to broken beats brought him to where he is in the electronic music scene today. With several years of mixing and many more of drumming and various other instruments under his belt you can always expect fine rhythms. Even at only 17 years of age Phrase steps up to the deck and impresses, every time.
DJ WOOD made his name in BC’s drum’n'bass scene, DJing at some of Vancouver Island’s earliest raves and promoting Victoria’s first d’n'b club nights, including debut appearences by old-timers like DJ Phantasy and Kenny Ken. Re-locating to Vancouver in 1999, Wood went on to host “Solar Bass”, HQ Communications’ radio show on Planet Aaj 96.1. He also held a residency at HQ’s “Tecknowledgy” club night where he supported world-class talent like Ray Keith, DJ SS and Bad Company.
After Solar Bass went off air, Wood & partners Link, Silence & Kotekan started their own radio show on the same station. “Sunday Sessions” gained a wide listenership throughout the lower mainland & Vancouver Island, and eventually spawned a club night of the same name at Sonar, Vancouver’s premier night spot at the time.
In addition to Sunday Sessions, Wood was also a resident DJ for “Zwack!” Fridays at Unit 20, an open-format club night where breaks, d’n'b and hip hop ruled the roost. It was here that Wood first made contact with his future collaborator DJ Soo, an aspiring turntablist & fellow drum’n'bass DJ. In agreeance that the drum’n'bass scene had grown stale and unimaginative, the duo launched a new club night at The Met Pub, “Bangers ‘n’ Mash”, that would allow them to explore their full range of musical taste.
After the cancellation of Bangers’n'Mash in late 2004, DJ Wood & DJ Soo were ready to step their game up to the next level. At a New Year’s Eve party called “Mangladesh”, the duo played together on 4 turntables, surprising even the most jaded partiers with their genre & tempo defying set. This set, re-recorded at Wood’s apartment later that month, became the duo’s debut mixtape and has gone on to become a world-wide cult classic. The duo have gone on to play venues all over Canada and support a wide variety of international acts including Stanton Warriors, Bassnectar, South Rakkas Crew and DJ Z-Trip.
The year 2005 saw the launch of Wood’s production career. Spurned by the success of their club nights & parties, local breakbeat crew TwentyHz Music were set to launch their record label. For their debut single, head-honcho DJ Soda chose the tune he had been opening his sets with for the past year - “Bun Dem” by DJ Wood. Wood went on to produce another track for the label, 2006’s “Poppa Large”. His third release, 2007’s “Eye No”, came out on the debut single for the UK ‘Nu Funk’ label Goodgroove Recordings. More releases for the now globally reknowned Goodgroove have ensued, along with a slot at the Canadian debut of their world wide Nu Funk club night “Regrooved”.
More recently, Wood has helped establish Super Happy Dance Deejays, a crew of veteran DJs who are making waves in Vancouver’s after hours scene. On the production front, Wood’s first digital release has come in the form of a remix for Ohio based artist Ruckus Roboticus, released March 2010 on the Dance Or Die label. Continuing his partnership with DJ Soo and as a solo artist, this seasoned performer shows no signs of slowing down!
Dialectic performs live electronic music, rooted in Techno, House, and the experimental electronic music of Kraftwerk, Neu, Gong and Tangerine Dream. His live show, performed using hardware sequencers, samplers, synths and guitar, develops minimal elements into textural overload through real time sonic manipulation.
It started in the late 90’s… with the help from hip-hop DJ’s and turntablist’s J-Feud was taught the delicate art of balancing beats and grooves. His first residency ” Swerve ” launched in early 2000 and was a ground breaking electronic night and a lasting success in Victoria. Over the past twelve years J-Feud has warmed up the stage and played along side world-class acts and DJ’s, as well as held down handfuls residencies. James has also had numerous appearances at music festivals like the famed Soundwave Music Festival, Rifflandia, Kulth Festival, Victoria Electronic Music Festival and Jump Ship.
J-Feud has started to emerge as a prolific producer and re-mixer, recently signed to Ginkgo Music ( romania ) his maiden track ” Risky Biscuit ” a re-take on chunky disco number is getting support from many. With a number of remix projects on the go James keeps busy and continues to play late night shifts at clubs and parties. From nu-disco and deep house to minimal and banging’ tech house James represents all realms of House Music and stays true to that form.
Dark Arps is a producer, composer, engineer, programmer and live electronic music performer, otherwise known as Live PA. He programs synths and designs sound, throwing down driving, energized basslines with funky, techhie beats. This handle is new, but he’s been at it, in one way or another, for 15 years.
Dark Arps digs deep. He’s subtly blunt. Darkly optimistic. Angrily happy. Cynically naive. Dark Arps pauses to reflect through movements and progression. He crafts beginnings, middles and ends; journeys. Peaks and troughs of light and darkness. Intensity and respite. Screams and whispers. Through all this he creates dynamics of audible energy with the colours and shades of his music, punctuated with irresistibly danceable techno and breakbeat grooves.
Dark Arps feels strongly. And he wants you to feel strongly too. He believes in the power of moments, those animated .gifs of memory. A sentence in the story of your life, looped, fine details blurred but vibe and atmosphere hyped. He lives for the powerful associations we create between people, place and music. And he hopes you know wtf he’s talking about, because that’s what he’s trying to create.
See, Dark Arps is LIVE, and he’s actually in the room with you. He engages with the crowd on a down-to-earth, personal level, and he’d rather be set up on the actual dancefloor and mixing it up with you lot than posing it up on a stage. Better sound, closer to the audience. Come and hi! There’s a very good chance he’ll like you.

I’m the guy behind East Van Digital & Fresh Baked DJs…been dropping tunes since ’98 and have been a Shambhala resident DJ since ’04, having played many a memorable set in the legendary Fractal Forest.
