Whether he’s opening for international superstars like Tipper, Bassnectar and the Freestylers; rocking a headlining slot at an outdoor party or providing backdrop beats in a local lounge, Generic is the kind of DJ who fully brings it, whatever the gig. His combination of technical skills (the guy has taken several Vancouver Island DJ competition titles), impeccable ear for crowd-rocking tunes and a fun-loving attitude makes Generic (nee Cole Magnusson) one of the Island’s most sough-after disc jockeys. Expect one of his sets to be chock-a-block with broken beats, glitch hop, drum and bass and dubstep—including some of his own tracks, edits and remixes—with plenty of cutting and scratching thrown in for good measure. With skills like that, it’s no surprise this 10-year vet behind the decks rarely goes a weekend without dropping a set

Known for their genre-defying mix tapes and 4-turntable performances, DJ Wood & DJ Soo have proven time and again their ability to rock just about any crowd that’s put before them. Since join- ing forces in 2004 they have attained a world wide cult following and shared the stage with an impres- sive list of international talents, including DJ Z-Trip, Bassnectar, Afrika Bambaataa, Q-Bert, DJ NuMark, Stanton Warriors, Shy FX, Zion I, South Rakkas Crew and many more. On the strength of their diverse and bass heavy 2 x 4 sets, they have played clubs, parties & festivals across the country and become main- stays of BC’s night life scene.
In the past year the duo have stepped up their studio output considerably. DJ Soo’s debut vinyl release (‘The Message’ on Ghetto Funk) and the duo’s first collaborative release (‘Attack Jam’ on Tre- mendo Records) each reached the top of the sales charts on Junodownload.com, maintaining the #1 position for 20+ days. Blog favorites like Soo’s “The Choice Is Yours” and Wood’s “Raver” have charted on Soundcloud.com with thousands of downloads from around the globe. A slew of remix work and an array of bootlegs and edits have culminated the release of their latest mixtape, entitled ‘Too Big To Fail’.
Wood ‘n’ Soo are seasoned crate diggers, raised in the age of vinyl LPs and 12” singles. The onset of the digital era has done nothing to dimin- ish their hunger for fresh new sounds. While rock- ing the party remains first priority, the duo refuse to be pigeon-holed into any particular genre or style
of DJing. Hip hop, Funk, Disco & Reggae form the roots of their sound, while their sets and productions branch out to include an array of styles from past to present.

There are 4 beats in a bar, and 4 bars in a phrase, but that’s not the only phrase in music. Fraser Evans, better known as Phrase, fell in love with music from a young age and has always been interested in shaping a certain sound. Attraction to broken beats brought him to where he is in the electronic music scene today. With several years of mixing and many more of drumming and various other instruments under his belt you can always expect fine rhythms. Even at only 17 years of age Phrase steps up to the deck and impresses, every time.

As a DJ, producer, and radio host; Synba lives his craft every day . “Listening for 8 hours a day for the rest of my life I could only scratch the surface of the amazing musical content out there! I’ve always had eclectic taste; finding where the extremes resonate and where craziness becomes music is my favorite part.” Born on Vancouver Island he spent his early years involved in musical and theatrical projects. While in high school he was given the keys to a professional theatre and sound system. As his seat in the classroom was often found empty, he could be found in the theatre working with dancers, musicians, and visual artists alike. A newcomer to the local scene, Triadic (Kevin Green) is a long time musician who has settled into bass music as a focus after a long search through multiple instruments and styles. Mixing and producing for two years, he has found himself spinning the deepest dubstep he can find, and has recently found a place in bass and melody driven half-time drum and bass. Spinning exclusively vinyl sets, he seeks to throw down smoothly flowing bass driven mixes that make your whole body want to groove to the beat. Its all about the staggered rhythms, body grooves and bass filled tunes.

Olav is a DJ / Producer / Electronic Artist who now holds residence in Vancouver B.C.
He credits his older brother for exposing him to electronic music through the mid-aught Vancouver Island rave scene.
“Those were happy times.” He laments.
By the latter 2000’s and as a member of ‘Team Rocket’, Olav launched onto the Victoria B.C. club circuit and the trio annihilated dance floors as the city was ravaged by an electro house epidemic.
Shortly thereafter he formed and fronted the noted dance rock band ‘Ice Climbers’, of which he was lead lyricist and singer.
Olav now writes and produces his own bizarre strain of synth’d out computer music, and DJ’s an assortment of house, techno, bass and UK garage.

The Beat Junky Break Beat Island, 4TM, Dubhouse, D -Bloc The Beat Junky, aka Nick, has always had a love for music and dancing; finding Break Dancing in 1983, he began teaching, and competing on Vancouver Island. With this fueling his passion for the arts he grew to appreciate the many Genre’s of Electronic music. He began on home CD players in 1995; mixing Techno, House and Industrial, and progressed to turntables in 1996; primarily mixing Drum and Bass – and it was at this point that the Beat Junky came to life! The Beat Junky has played all over Vancouver Island, on the Main Land, as well as the Gulf Islands. With the formation of the Temple of Gong (T.O.G.), a small group of DJ’s that would ‘renegade’ parties, Nick was able to establish himself as a DJ, later to be know as the ‘Godfather of DnB on the Island’. He has opened for such names as: Freaky Flow, DJ Raw, Mat The Alien, The FreeStylers, Ill-Gates, Capital J, Heyoka , The Dirt Crew and more. He has also done shows with Herostraight playing live violin as well some projects involving turntabelists and Didgeridoos. In 2009 this die-hard vinyl lover gave in to our consumerist society, and valuing his love for music and his daughter Imajica he made the switch from vinyl to Serato. With the rise of the age of technology he could finally push himself even further developing new mixing techniques and an ability to access even more music on a global level. With obligations to his family, he made the switch. This has now proven to be a wonderful endeavor, for it has opened up a world full of new possibilities. Nick’s genres include, among the many: Drum-n-Bass (Raga, Jungle, Jump-up, Techstep, Hardstep, Liquid funk, Grime and now Drumstep & Halfstep); Dub-step; and Glitch-hop. If it has a broken beat he is not far away! As well as being a full time Dad, he is also a body piercer in Duncan, at Mike’s Tattoos; however Nick will not let life get in his way, for there is a new Beat on the rise, ready for anything that this industry has to offer him.

I’m the guy behind East Van Digital & Fresh Baked DJs…been dropping tunes since ’98 and have been a Shambhala resident DJ since ’04, having played many a memorable set in the legendary Fractal Forest. DJ WOOD made his name in BC’s drum’n'bass scene, DJing at some of Vancouver Island’s earliest raves and promoting Victoria’s first d’n'b club nights, including debut appearences by old-timers like DJ Phantasy and Kenny Ken. Re-locating to Vancouver in 1999, Wood went on to host “Solar Bass”, HQ Communications’ radio show on Planet Aaj 96.1. He also held a residency at HQ’s “Tecknowledgy” club night where he supported world-class talent like Ray Keith, DJ SS and Bad Company.
After Solar Bass went off air, Wood & partners Link, Silence & Kotekan started their own radio show on the same station. “Sunday Sessions” gained a wide listenership throughout the lower mainland & Vancouver Island, and eventually spawned a club night of the same name at Sonar, Vancouver’s premier night spot at the time.
In addition to Sunday Sessions, Wood was also a resident DJ for “Zwack!” Fridays at Unit 20, an open-format club night where breaks, d’n'b and hip hop ruled the roost. It was here that Wood first made contact with his future collaborator DJ Soo, an aspiring turntablist & fellow drum’n'bass DJ. In agreeance that the drum’n'bass scene had grown stale and unimaginative, the duo launched a new club night at The Met Pub, “Bangers ‘n’ Mash”, that would allow them to explore their full range of musical taste.
After the cancellation of Bangers’n'Mash in late 2004, DJ Wood & DJ Soo were ready to step their game up to the next level. At a New Year’s Eve party called “Mangladesh”, the duo played together on 4 turntables, surprising even the most jaded partiers with their genre & tempo defying set. This set, re-recorded at Wood’s apartment later that month, became the duo’s debut mixtape and has gone on to become a world-wide cult classic. The duo have gone on to play venues all over Canada and support a wide variety of international acts including Stanton Warriors, Bassnectar, South Rakkas Crew and DJ Z-Trip.
The year 2005 saw the launch of Wood’s production career. Spurned by the success of their club nights & parties, local breakbeat crew TwentyHz Music were set to launch their record label. For their debut single, head-honcho DJ Soda chose the tune he had been opening his sets with for the past year - “Bun Dem” by DJ Wood. Wood went on to produce another track for the label, 2006’s “Poppa Large”. His third release, 2007’s “Eye No”, came out on the debut single for the UK ‘Nu Funk’ label Goodgroove Recordings. More releases for the now globally reknowned Goodgroove have ensued, along with a slot at the Canadian debut of their world wide Nu Funk club night “Regrooved”.
More recently, Wood has helped establish Super Happy Dance Deejays, a crew of veteran DJs who are making waves in Vancouver’s after hours scene. On the production front, Wood’s first digital release has come in the form of a remix for Ohio based artist Ruckus Roboticus, released March 2010 on the Dance Or Die label. Continuing his partnership with DJ Soo and as a solo artist, this seasoned performer shows no signs of slowing down!

A DJ/Producer from Victoria, Canada; who isn’t sorry for party rockin’
Mr. Goodcat’s been deep in the music scene since his early teens. His interest in electric and acoustic guitar shifted when he got his first taste of electronic music in 2008, and from there history writes itself. Moving from the small party scene to performing at large venues in front of even larger crowds, he’s blessed the stage with well known BC rappers like Snak the Ripper and Mad Child (of Swollen Members fame), and the Outlawz. You can expect a fresh blend of bass heavy dub, dnb, breaks, electro and funk, that’ll keep the dance floor jumpin’
For two years now WHOA, GRENADE! have insistently made their mark around BC. They don’t talk, they don’t joke. They just make you dance. It’s as simple as that. Whatever it takes. From an intimate room of a couple hundred to a massive crowd of thousands, they’ve proved this. It doesn’t matter what they play. From their spine-chilling productions to the most exclusive music you wish you had (which gets delivered straight to their inboxes), anything they put on those speakers will make you dance. It doesn’t take many conversations with many people around the island to confirm that. Signing with Burn the Fire records in Los Angeles didn’t hurt them, either. Expect their debut EP August 1st. Also expect massive official remixes of high-profile artists such as Alex Mind (ft. Sue Cho), Fast Foot, and many more. These guys won’t stop until they hit the top.

Joy Kitikonti was born in Tuscany. He felt immediately a great passion for music when he was young, probably influenced by his father, a musician during 60’s 70’s. His career began in 80’s, he was a self taught musician, skilful with the battery and percussion instruments. Joy is a polyhedric artist with several discographic successes, important partnerships and awards in his background. All these experiences made him the complete artist of today. His underground vocation comes from those boundary territories, where music means fun, not just money, where friendship among the artists goes further than the interests of the music industry. Joy has already released hundreads of tracks during the latest years, both under his real name and under different pseudonyms. Joy Kitikonti is a complete artist and he has a deep musical background, he’s really appreciated by his collegues for his creative fantasy and his original sound. He’s really requested also as remixer.

Performance and music have been a part S.K.Bass’ life for as long as she can remember. By age 7 she was performing in piano recitals and musical theater in her hometown of Duncan BC. To this day S.K.’s passions remain the same. She spends her days working in Canada’s television industry, and her nights blowing up speakers around BC’s club and party scene.
In the past few years, S.K. has held down a residency called BASSLINES at Lick Club in Vancouver and had a weekly timeslot on a British webradio station where she was both the sole female DJ and only Canadian. In 2012 S.K. has aligned herself with D-Blok Studios on Vancouver Island and will be performing for the first time at a festival in the B.C. interior.
S.K.Bass’ sets are focused on danceability. If she doesn’t get you moving, no one will. She fuses oldschool throwbacks with fresh, cutting-edge stormers that will fill any dancefloor. Don’t be surprised if she tears out some classic dance hits or booty bass tracks from the 1990s either. S.K.Bass will always get the party started right, and quickly!

But the track’s success simply encouraged the hard working producer to get his ass back into the studio and create a world of music his friends and fans have come to recognize him for.
Starkillers has an impressive list of musical accomplishments: he runs the record label Terratraxx that he started in 2002, has produced a ton of original productions and done an equally impressive number of high profile remixes. His hits include remixes of Armand Van Helden, iiO, The D.O.N.S Robbie Rivera, Paul Oakenfold, Dj Dan,Dj Chus, Space Cowboy, Carmen Electra, Paul Van Dyke, Shinny Toy Guns, Dj Rap, Ida Corr, Nadia Ali, And many more.
Capping out the end of the year in 2009 and moving into 2010 Starkillers put up 2 of the top 25 best selling tracks on Beatport for 2009, with a #1 Spot for Starkillers vs Arman Van Helden “The funk Phenomena” and a # 3 spot with Starkillers “Bitch assTrick”, both charted on the top 25 at 15 and 25 and were hailed as instant classics in the dance music scene. Putting forth this kind of effort and throwing down this kind of heat, Starkillers has become one of the most sought after producers in the game. So look out for his name and brand cause chances are he will be in your city soon.

Taking his name from a line in a Slayer song, DJ Demonseed assaults the dancefloor with the brutal sounds of Dutch hardcore, hardstyle, and hard dark drum’n’bass, better known as evilstep. His love of hardcore began in the late 80s and early 90s with speedmetal, deathmetal and industrial groups including Slayer, Metallica, Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death, Voivod, Ministry, Malhavoc, and Skinny Puppy, and progressed into electronic music in 1994 with the emergence of the Rotterdam hardcore techno sound. He likes melody with his hardcore, along with hard drums and plenty of bass. Recently he has expanded his sound into hardstyle and hard techno, by slowing the more melodic aspects of Rotterdam from the typical 170+ beats per minute to a more manageable 140bpm.
Evan Jones has been a member of Soundproof, a Vancouver-based electronic music collective, since 2005. Soundproof has been throwing high quality, late-night, underground parties for the last 14 years. Their events are known for being intentionally small and intimate in scope, advertised primarily through word of mouth and encompassing a wide range of music that is best described as being hard, but friendly.
Originally a self-professed musical opener or closer, Evan has become a regular peak-time performer and crowd favorite at Soundproof events. He is a regular contributor and member of Area709, a Calgary-based DJ and producer collective and Beheshto, another Vancouver-based artist community. His music is balance between melodic tendencies and a recent preference for more extroverted, slightly dark techno.

Grasp The Erro is a Canadian dj/producer who currently lives in Vancouver BC and focuses on all genres of bass music. He has been behind the wheels of steel and the midi keyboard for nearly a decade. Originally, way, way, back in the day his musical roots and inspiration sprung from early rave culture. However, from the beginning of his time behind the decks Grasp became heavily absorbed in the realm of Hip-Hop and turntablism largely due to his fascination with using the turntables as instruments to manipulate sound i.e. skratching. Grasp went on to take 3rd place in a Regional DMC Qualifier in 2004. He now divides his time between live shows, furthering his turntablist skills and producing. 2011 has been a big year for Grasp with 13 tracks signed to date and many more on the way.

The existence of Dodd has long been questioned by those who’ve not been on his dancefloor—but those who’ve been there are fast and thorough believers. From his humble beginnings as a dancefloor observer Dodd carefully catalogued the sounds and reactions of the people in order to pinpoint the perfect palette of progressive sounds: blending trance, glitch, dub and techno tidbits into memorable dancefloor journeys that transcend sonic expectations. With these dancefloor commandments Dodd has been rocking crowds consistently in Victoria, as well as becoming a mainstay of the Entheos Conference and Festival. Whether you’re a believer or not, with the speakers as his chorus, you will be moved by the voice of Dodd…

Nick Catchdubs lives in Brooklyn, eats Spaghetti-O’s, and plays dance music.
Over the past five years, Nick has rocked spots around the globe armed with unassuming charm and a signature mix of hip-hop, electro, dancehall, rock and more, with an emphasis on new music. In the process, he’s made a name for himself as a top-notch party DJ and one of the most diverse and enthusiastic selectors in todays scene, equally at home opening sold-out shows for the likes of the Clipse, MIA and Rihanna, banging it out between indie bands at the SXSW and CMJ festivals, or raving past dawn with Sinden and other new-school club wizards.

He has a grip of original productions and official remixes on deck, and still finds time to make major moves with Fool’s Gold, the trendsetting record label he co-founded with A-Trak that’s been responsible for introducing new talent like Kid Sister to the world at large.
Yet even as the achievements and accolades stack up, Nick can’t stop looking forward to the next party, the newest tunes, and the good times still to come. Hey, it’s worked so far…

About beatsapple.com blog
My name is Andrew Sherry, I am 24 years of age. Music, and musical instruments have always been a huge part of my life. Electronic music has always fascinated me with it’s rapid evolution, and out of this world sounds, and capabilities.
In 2010 I was fortunate enough to have been apprenticed by my dear friend DJ Kenzie Clarke. I quickly caught the hang of it and was immediately addicted. I had my first gig within 4 months of stepping behind the tables at Lucky Bar, opening for BUSTA, and MR. Smith.
Over the past year I have played quite a few a gigs in Victoria, Vancouver, and Whistler. Some memorable gigs over the past year have been, The media club in Vancouver, 919 opening for LA Riots, holding down NYPD(Thursdays) at Lucky Bar for 3 months, Maple room for blackout at the Strath, OH GREAT Mondays with Wax, MR Smith vs the Shrew episodes at Lucky Bar on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
From Disco, Breaks, Electro, House, Dubstep and DNB I love it all and have a knack for knowing what the crowed wants to hear. You can expect to keep your feet moving, head banging and have the urge to want more.
My future plans for djing are to continue to enjoy it, and learn. I would like to increase the amount of shows that I play out of town, and will be starting to take over Friday Evenings, and Saturday Evenings at Lucky Bar with Chris Longshanks.
Whether he’s opening for international superstars like Tipper, Bassnectar,A skillz and the Freestylers; rocking a headlining slot at an outdoor party or providing backdrop beats in a local lounge, Generic is the kind of DJ who fully brings it, whatever the gig.
Originally separate artists, Braden Chan and Victor Ho have been integrated into the electronic dance music scene in their own ways before collaborating to create an innovative, driving and yet soulful style that is quickly becoming a signature sound throughout their hometown in Vancouver, Canada. Energy-charged sets featuring many of their own reworks and reconstructions have put Brad & Victor H on the map for many electronic music enthusiasts. Their mashups have garnered the support of many artists in the EDM industry, and as artists, Brad & Victor H constantly strive to channel their passion for electronic music into bringing the best of trance and progressive to all music lovers alike.
Plus 2 has been making his sound known across the world as a proponent of Midtempo, Skweee and the Glitch Hop genres. From the sultriest of tones to the heaviest of lazer bass vibrations and everything in between. 2010 saw a leap in production skills with massive bass, heavy synths, crisp drums and all manner of mashed up video game sounds. A proud member of Glitch Hop Forum and Stereoshift, this past year has seen him rise to play with some of the worlds leading artists and to packed venues all over Canada. Consistently releasing free music via Soundcloud, he has been featured in several blogs, mixes and articles including Time Warp Bass, Subsynthesis, Doctor Krank, Bomarr and Union Sound. With the release of his feature EP Contra Code on Tycho Records, he has set a standard and keeps rising the ranks of EDM culture.
Rennie Foster has been a well respected figure in the Canadian music and art community since he was just a teenager. He influenced many as an early pioneer of the Hip-Hop / B-Boy movement and later the House Music and Techno / Rave scene. His musical career began as a member of “Sound Advice”, one of the first Hip Hop groups to emerge in the late 80’s from Western Canada. “Get yourself acquainted with Mr.Foster quick-smart” – DJ magazine, UK.
I started out playing outdoor end-of-the-year concerts for Community Colleges around my home town of NYC. When I moved to BC for school, I fell in love with the house music scene, specifically people’s appreciation for good house music here. My goal every set, whether it’s at a house party or stage is to give people the most entertaining experience as they listen an dance to the beats I am so passionate about.
Nathan Mots or DJ Nims started DJ’ing after his interest was sparked into a new found love of electronic music, specifically house music in his first year at university. For over a year and a half DJ Nims has taken to learning the ins and outs of DJ’ing, Under the wings of Daryl Blott (ex resident DJ of Plan B) and Dj Murge (Veteran island DJ), DJ Nims has taken to expanding his knowledge of electronica, in the constant goal of providing fun nights for all.
DJing for 17 years, Mike Downey has torn up dance floors in over 25 different cities in 5 different countries with his unique blend of house and trance. Formerly known as a harder edge DJ, nowadays Mike has lightened up a bit, but still keeps it banging. As a promoter / DJ / producer, Mike has been there and done that and will continue to do so straight into his elderly years, just banging it out at old folks homes across the world
Since 2010, these guys have consistently destroyed every dance floor they touch. They are regarded for their creative live sets which jump from genre to genre seamlessly, for their original productions and remixes, and for their unsurpassed energy on stage.
They are supported by some of the biggest artists around the world, and it’s no surprise to anyone that many artists regard them as one of the hottest new acts for 2012/2013. These guys are destined for greatness, and they plan on leaving their mark across the world.
Joey Chaos and Andrew Walker are an electro rock duo and have been performing since 2007. Mixing analog synths, electric guitars, tube amps and epic vocals, their sound is hard, lush and layered carried by big bass and heavy beats.
Starting in university, Joey Chaos began producing demos and mix tapes influenced by new wave, synthpop and industrial. At a midnight rave he was introduced to the mid-Island electronica scene and soon branched out into big beat, nu-disco and French house. Walker performed in various garage and punk bands before playing with Joey Chaos.
They have been actively involved in Vancouver Island’s music scene, performing with artists including Automaton, Phrase, Left Spine Down, Funk Vigilante and Tribal Machine. They headlined the Vancouver Island Youth Music Festival and have been featured on independent film and CBC Radio 1.
Joshua has been in and around the Victoria electronic music scene for many years, both as a DJ and promoter, and more recently as a producer. Joshua infuses his infectious Progressive House grooves with layers of Techno and Tech House - his energetic dance floors are always packed and pumpin’. Joshua is a proud member of Sunset Labs, a musician and artist collective featuring AFK, Fractal, Toby Emerson, Christoph, Braeden and more. Joshua has held several local weekly residencies, including the popular Sweatshop at Hush alongside DJs Wookie and Beaks McGavin, as well as The Rise, and Rapture with local progressive house powerhouses Yoseff and Freya. Joshua continues to play numerous parties and clubnights, large and small, in and around Victoria and Vancouver, and has played alongside the likes of Max Graham, DJ Nemesis and Greg Benz. In 2008, Joshua graced the mainstage of the Victoria Electronic Music Festival (VEMF) alongside DJ Wookie - together they electrified the crowd and set the tone for a fun filled weekend. Joshua also headlined VEMF afterparty events in 2009 and 2010. One thing is certain - Joshua always leaves them wanting more!
Chamberlain has been apart of the victoria electronic music scene for well over a decade. Chamberlain has just released his first single ” Late night legend” due out June 1st on Beatport and i Tunes, as well as every other digital store on the net.all we know is this whatever he play’s he brings a ” Big Sound” to the dancefloor everytime!
Chord’s philosophy is simple: play good music. His style flows through deep dub and minimal to house and techno — a slow burn of building rhythms accelerating into an intoxicating blend. Moving from making killer mixed tapes for friends to playing records for local parties, his easygoing demeanour continues to engage audiences at clubs, festivals, and on his weekly web radio broadcast DUB:fuse (dub.ca). Chord’s DJ sets return focus to the music as its own spectacle, with intuitively constructed sets that play out with a constrained and powerful force. His influences range from early dub, ambient, stripped-down minimal, jackin’ house, and ground-shaking techno.
Dan Snakehead has been dominating dance floors for more than decade performing in Vancouver, Salt Spring Island, and for a little while Victoria (British Columbia, Canada). He is a certified Rythme Institute DJ (now school of mix) trained under Dj Marvel in 2004. He was a night club, after hours and house party dj for many years and competed in the Dj Mix Championships by invite aka the DMC’s (Whistler ‘05 and Victoria ‘05, ‘06 placing in all three events).
http://www.thedjlist.com (the worlds largest DJ directory) currently ranks him in the top 20 in Vancouver.
Dan Snakehead discovered his passion for electronic music in 1999 and started organizing electronic music events in 2001. As an amatuer it was hard for him to find work other than spur of the moment house parties or volunteer events that only paid in exposure. He has since played thousands of events from house parties and night clubs to big name concerts and it shows. He has “come up the hard way and paid his dues”.
He can play anything but normally plays Top 40, House, Hip Hop and Club music for night clubs. For outdoor events and massives he switches styles to Electro, Glitch, and Dubstep. He plays other stuff like Speed Garage, Trance, Breaks, Drum & Bass, 80’s, Rock, Metal, 90’s, electro swing, and of course scratch (the guy has invented scratch techniques). He is trained to play on anything : turn tables, cd decks, his laptop, even dvd players or cassette players, he’s so versatile, it’s sick. He says he spends about six hours a night checking obscure charts and researching online so that he always has the freshest tracks when he’s not playing. His creativity shines through in his mixes and his microphone skills, to say he can get a crowd going is an understatement.
In September of 2002 he founded a independant non-profit organization called “Last Minute Productions” dedicated to fund raising for local charities and youth crime prevention in his home town community (Salt Spring Island). Charities in his community like his local youth center, high school, and skate Park are on the recipient list. Last Minute Productions is still a well respected, functioning, non-profit organization in his home town community to this day with a small group of very dedicated vollunteers (reference Nathan Valcourt P.R. 250-537-8809).
The last charitable events he was invloved with “Shake it for the Quake” (reference Mya Hardman) which raised thousands for the Haitian Relief Foundation thru the Alchemi Living Atrs Collective That show dominoed into more events for breast cancer research and other fantastic causes, see Erotica Electronica and The Frightmare before Christmas.

“I have had horrid luck with regards to finding good placement agents, promoters, or really any kind of mutually beneficial situation to settle into” says Dan. “But you can’t give up, you just keep trying. After all, success only come to those who never give up on thier dreams, right?” This dedicated Dj’s dream is of regularly performing at stadium sized events. After September 4th’s “Sound Clash of the Titans” an outdoor massive, Return of the Titans, and hosting the third of the Sound Clash series over christmas Sound Clash of the Santas, this dj’s roster continues to build momentum. Though big shows are his dream, he says he will always crave the intimacy and sense of family with performing at smaller venues. Dan Snakehead has many unmentioned short term residencies under his belt all of which have ended on good terms but is still looking for the ideal sustainable, stable, situation. You can hear him perform live Thursdays on CFSI Salt Spring Radio 107.9fm or listen to live streaming audio at http://www.cfsi-fm.com from 10-12 midnight.
From ‘06 -‘09 he took a break from the dream to raise his son on Salt Spring Island as a single dad and performed for the local pubs. While there he organised more events and performed random house parties and outdoor events.
Pre-dating that he was at Barcode on Broadway (Vancouver) where he played hip-hop, breaks, and drum & bass wednesdays thru saturdays aswell as playing an after hours every night in Coquitlam (known only as the Glen House to a lucky few). Unfortunatey Barcode was closed down due to improper managment.
Prior to that he was the resident DJ at the City Limits Night Club in Abbotsoford where he opened and played with big named acts like the Trews and 2 Live Crew thru the generosity of Rockit-boy Entertainment..
Before that he was simultaneously employed as disc jockey for The Jungle Room and Monty’s Showroom (Victoria, Vancouver Island). At Monty’s Showroom on Wet T-Shirt Wednesdays he was also the Super Soaker Boy. He opted to leave the club due to the non-existant promotional team that is required to make successful nights. Before he left though, he refered the Jungle Room to Mother Bird Promotions (of White Bird Records) who took the nessecary initiative and now The Jungle Night Club is floureshing under the new name.
He’s played with everyone from Benny Benassi to The Sweat Shop Union, his gigography list is endless. Why he dosn’t have more singles out is probably because he’s always performing. Time for some label to scoop him up. He’s got tons of demo’s of really obscure stuff like Celtic Electronica Fusion, Rotterdam, Mash-Ups and Spoof Hip Hop aswell as Quack Hits (his dirty electro series, hear the first of four and his first three of eight Dubstep compilations here : http://www.ravevictoria.com/music/djsets.php?path=/Dan_Snakehead )
Craze’s life is a legacy of rags to riches, geek to chic, no-name to world fame. He never had it easy – from fleeing battle in Nicaragua at the age of 3 to a geeky adolescence to Hurricane Andrew hitting Miami in 1992 – nor did have ever have any coattails to ride; his is a story that’s an uphill battle, but a story that ends right at the top. “My mom always taught me I could do anything I put my mind to. So when she asked what I wanted to do with my turntables, I told her, ‘Be the best DJ in the world,’” Craze casually laughs. And that he proved – 3 times at the DMC World Championships, an unprecedented record, and a title that no other solo DJ has yet to match. While Craze is regarded internationally and unquestionably as one of the best scratch DJs in the world, it’s still astonishing to see his overwhelming number of titles on paper: Craze has won first place for the USA DMC Championships in 1998, World ITF Scratch Off Championships in 1998, ITF Western Hemisphere Scratch Off Championships (1998, ‘99), Winter Music Conference Scratch Off Champion (1996, ‘97, ‘98, ‘99), East Coast DMC Championships (1997), East Coast Rap Sheet Championships (1996) and Zulu National Championships (1995, ‘96), to name but a few. Additionally, DJ Craze claimed 2nd place in the first DMC Team Championship with his Allies’ crew (which included fellow champions A-Trak and Infamous) in 1999 – and then in 2000, the Allies’ won the Team Championship title, taking it from the previous year’s winners the Scratch Perverts.
“I won the DMC’s when I was 20. I joined the Regionals, won that, Nationals, won that, and then won the Worlds. And I took it from A-Trak – that’s right! But he was only like 15 when I beat him. I was still scared. Then in that year, in ‘98 when I beat A-Trak in the [DMC] Worlds, I didn’t wanna battle no more and I thought he’d be the icing on the cake, so instead we formed the Allies and we kicked everybody’s butt. “ – Craze
On top of his untouchable turntablist skills and scratch champion showmanship, the world has also recognised that Craze is a second to none club DJ – he has toured the globe over, from Jamaica to Australia to Japan to Iceland to France to the country he was born, Nicaragua. All DJing aside, Craze is also a world- renowned producer, releasing wildly successful drum’n'bass records with labels such as Cartel Recordings, Breakbeat Kaos, and C.I.A and other hip hop inspired productions with the likes of DMC Records, Ninja Tune Records, OM Records and K7 Records. It’s the respect from both DJs and audiences alike that has paved Craze’s seamless move between hip hop and turntablism to drum’n'bass – both serious subzero clique/cult scenes the globe over demanding much of any artist trying to peddle their wares worldwide; to what now sounds like club-style Miami bass, formed with the technical love of hip hop with clean cuts and ridiculously dextrous scratching, but a mix up of straight up rap, ghettotech, raw booty house, old-school electro, Baltimore/Miami bass crossover and sweaty lo-end dancefloor music, making it all but impossible to keep still. This is Craze – the man who arguably defined his hometown Miami turntablism scene, only to return now to reinvent this take on the Miami sound; a neo-genre of his own special blend of every which way club codes from the ghosts of discos past, present and future.
Nate Jones has always had a strong love for music. It started at the age of five when he first tickled the ivories, to when he touched his first Tech 12 at 17. This household Victoria name from years gone by spent several years in Vancouver with residencies at numerous lounges, and gracing such clubs as the infamous Lotus. Nate’s been keeping a low profile since returning to Victoria, and has been turning his obsession with music into to something that can be felt on a global scale. He spends his time writing new tracks for record labels and honing his producer skills. He has just finished work on his 5th EP, which will hit the shelves soon! Summer has arrived and it’s time for this DJ/Producer/Musician to come out of hibernation.

Landscape Body Machine is Craig Joseph Huxtable, a Vancouver/Victoria based electronic musician with 20+ years in the industry. Best known for creating politically and socially minded work, LBM is noted for energetic and passionate live performances, which are an exception rather than the norm for most electronic-based artists, where most of the action usually takes place hidden away from sight in front of banks of computers and synthesizers. He has been Influenced by many forms of electronic music such as the likes of electro-industrial, acid house, techno, drum n bass and ambient.
His main project Landscape Body Machine has played the West Coast constantly over the past 17 years sharing the stage with such acts as KMFDM, Moev, Covenant and more. He has collaborated with a wide array of artists and personalities, from bands like FLA, Cargohold and Fidgital to DR. David Suzuki and Noam Chomsky. Craig has an industry wide reputation as an amazing live and session keyboardist, recording and touring as a member of Frontline Assembly, Noise Unit and Stiff Valentine. Most recently, LBM contributed a remix to You Say Party! We Say Die!‘s Remixxxx album and appeared as a performer and writer on FLA’s last album “Improvised Electronic Device” and co-wrote their GAMA award winning single “Shifting Through the Lens”.
From Victoria, BC, Canada; Michael Glover is Miami Nights 1984 and co-founder of Rosso Corsa Records—an independent record label dedicated to 1980s synthesizers. With Rosso Corsa Records he is championing artists such as Mitch Murder, Lazerhawk and Jordan F to make 1980s-inspired music with modern fidelity.
Being among the pioneers of this revival, Mike’s first project Actrazer initially defined the Rosso Corsa sound together with output from label co-founder Lazerhawk. They coined their music Outrun, a genre of soundtrack music with epic leads and arpeggiated synths. At the same time, Kavinsky, the Outrunners and the Valerie Collective were all contributing to this new sound. Since 2010 Michael Glover has been ecstatic about the success of his second project known as Miami Nights 1984 (MN84). Characterized by smooth synthesizers and nostalgic solos, this new sound accentuates the carefree feel of the 1980s. The Miami Nights sound is garnering support on an international scale with the official remix of ‘Somebody I Used To Know.’ by Gotye. It infuses 1980s charm with Gotye’s powerful voices and moody lyrics. Rollings Stone says it’s an “eighties-inspired synth-pop remix, inspired by [mike’s] love of old John Hughes films” while VH1 says “It’s a synth-led 80s redux, and it’s pretty rad”
When asked about influences, Mike says he obviously takes from the 80s: “The music, movies, shows, cars and girls are all running through my imagination when I write a piece of music. I’m not happy with a piece of music unless I can imagine it as the soundtrack to a film or show. Ever since I was a child I enjoyed synth-based music like Tangerine Dream, Jean Michael Jarre and Ray Lynch.” His name coincides with the original run of Miami Vice TV show on September 28, 1984. In creating his sound he uses “a variation of analogue synths and virtual instruments in Abelton Live. I’ve been using more virtual instruments for convenience and ability to leave a project without worrying about getting the same sound again.” Many of the parts are first recorded from live instrumentation and tweaked afterward in Ableton. “If I had to choose my best track… it would have to be Elevator Of Love or Ocean Drive“. I think many of us would agree with Ocean Drive which is a soundtrack to California’s Pacific Coast Highway or even Ocean Drive on the Miami Beach strip:

Briden specializes in all forms of trance, including psychedelic, progressive, full on, tribal, tech house/techno, and everything in between. 2010/2011 was an incredible adventure for the soulfix & Dirty Politics alias’. Having spent the first year in Victoria, collaborating with some of the local favorites, soulfix parleted his record label and beatport connections, to give many local artists thier first record deals, and first taste of serious international marketplace exposure. Keoni, Chi No, Veela, Cityof9s, Florian, Happyfeat(DTF!), Neo1, LSDJ 50, Antagonist, and even one of the boys from Whoa Grenade, all cut their teeth and made their beatport debut, on one of the record labels that soulfix owns and manages. Those labels include Audio Planet, Atomic Zoo, New World-Out of Order and Dirty Fabric Digital. Audio Planet even helped to expose some established local artists as well, including Collaborations with Toby Emerson, King Kornelius, Wobble Skankz and more.
Soulfix’ local contribution also has created many opportunities for new up & coming DJ’s to preform locally, with regular events around town in the past year and more to come this fall. Having brought many headliners to the city including, Bass Kleph, Mc Flipside, Will Bailey, Lazy Rich vs Jelo, Paul Anthony, Dylan Kennedy & having thrown countless local events, including a Monday night residency @ the world famous Hush Nightclub with Chi No, Micheal was voted by the public as Victoria’s premier Music Producer & Top Electro DJ, at the first Annual Victoria Nightlife Awards. Founded in Sun Peaks, British Columbia in 2011, Two half robot minds collided, one as a student, one as a teacher, to create an earthquake-like energy. D-FUNKT, (Koric) holding 25+ years of musical experience of all kinds, shared the art of mixing music digitally with newcomer DJ CRASCOURSE (Lange). Shortly after passing on the skill of mixing and partyrocking, D-FUNKT & CRASHCOURSE as a duo, began playing live dj events together. It wasn’t before long that the energy created by these two started becoming more and more ridiculous and entertaining. After multiple shows played together, a few beers, and a couple smashed ideas, “Perv ‘Stache” was born. “It’s always nice to see the DJ’s dancing as hard as the party people on the dancefloor..” is something that’s said and appreciated about Perv ‘Stache. These two electronically influenced men are here to deliver straight goods, laughs, witty punchlines, and so much bass it would make any fisherman jealous. If your opportunity comes up to party with these two sleeze machines, grab them a drink, flash them a smile and a high five…you’ll be friends forever. You might even get to go for a ride in their van after the show…..
NEIGHBOUR….. Matt has lived and breathed music since he busted out the cradle. At age 5 he would cajole strangers with his beloved ukulele, progressing onto guitar and bass as time went on. After learning to play saxophones in the jazz band and plying his trade as a music teacher throughout high school, he moved on to Mount Royal College where he took part in the Jazz Studies program on guitar. Through it all, Matt developed his recording skills alongside his instruments, learning on the classic four-track Tascam and moving onto serious multitracking and computer sequencing. A strong love for Funk, Soul, and Disco developed as he worked at local record stores and sure enough, these elements are ever present in his Groove-Drenched productions. These days, when he’s not producing or teaching music for Home Breakin’ Records, he spends his time playing gigs around town with various bands, DJing, and digging for the next break to transform into Funky Black Gold.
DJ TREVER….. Straight from tha hood… Gordonhood Victoria that is! DJ Trever has been droppin’ science for many many moons now. Nims has always had an extensive interest in music ranging from Disco and Tech House to Jazz, Hip Hop, Popular Music and other forms of Electronica- but it was an spark in Turntablism that drove Nims into learning more about the technical aspects of DJing in 2010. After spending a year under the tutoring of Red Bull Threestyle Champion, DJ Murge, Nims made his first venture out playing in the Maple Room at the Strathcona in 2011. Since then Nims has played all over Victoria including many nights playing Hip Hop at both Sugar and Touch to Electro nights with the Clay Owl DJ competition at Upstairs and various other holidays at Sugar Nightclub, ending up with a weekly residencies Thursdays and Monday at Touch Lounge as well as a nomination for Victoria Night Life Awards Best New DJ. Nearing the summer of 2010, he recorded “Project Mayhem” under his first alias ‘Tyler Durden’ which landed him that spot on the Victoria Electronic Music Festivals 2010 roster. Get ready for some low-frequency bass driven bombs, bangin’ break beats and all types of iLL shit…

Fronted by the enigma that is :DT:, a visceral crowd-mesmerizing vocal powerhouse capable of hypnotizing thousands of people and holding them in the palm of his outstretched hand, guiding them through the journey that is the Wordclock experience.
Backed by the entity known as Renfield, part man, part machine and possibly of alien origin. Little is known about Renfield, and what is known is rarely spoken out loud. He stands behind his wall of technology and ushers in the soundtrack too humanities utter destruction and de-evolution, setting it too a pulsing, pounding beat.
In short, Wordclock is explosive Post-Apocalyptic Cinematic Industrial music. They will show you the future, for this is 2012, the dawning of a new age, and the Wordclock is ticking like a timebomb, ready to explode.
Neil Davis aka Neo¹ or Totally, is a rare breed of DJ that has been rockin out speed garage since the Summer of 1999. Within the past few years Neo has been growing his potential producing his own tracks. 2010 presented Neo with the opportunity for his premier release “Destination EP” a 5 track EP release on Atomic Zoo Recordings (Calgary). 2011 is already starting to show alot of promise with one remix released on Backzide Records (San Francisco) in March and 3 remixes for Atomic Zoo released in April & May. Now with 5 originals and 2 remixes slated for release in July-Aug on Backzide Records, Bass Hound Records (Seattle) and Breakz R Boss (Calgary) there seems to be no end in sight for this budding producer. Not only does Neo specialize in warping basslines, he is also fond to breaks, garage, 2-step, funky house, 4x4, bassline house, dnb and dubstep. Neo is also one half of “Funk’n Ruff”, the other half being none other than his best friend Brent ‘d-Set’ Kral. Together they produce mostly speed garage, bassline house and bassline breaks.
Now with 12 years of bassline knowledge behind him, come out and witness Neo with his extreme energy and stage presence animating dancefloors all across Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland, the Okanagan and hopefully this year the boundaries will be pushed to a new level! He’s sure to make you move your body all night long to his bass heavy sets tuned to the funky sounds of house, 2-step, breaks and garage and the dirty whompy bassline driven beats of speed garage, bassline and 4x4 with the occasional added grit of dubstep and dnb.
Jesse aka Da 1 Like Damaja, also producing and performing as neur0mancer and DJ Demonseed, fell in love with electronic music, and jungle especially, while attending his first rave in 1994 in Toronto. He started DJing in 1996 with a radio show on Seneca College’s campus radio station, mentored by DJ Marty McFly, and producing in 1998. His first track, “Brown Is A Clown”, was a jungle remix of Bob Marley’s “Mr. Brown”. Since then, he’s produced a range of breakbeat hardcore, gabber, ambient, deep minimal techno, house and acid house, and psytrance, published through his own label, DNE Productions, founded in 1996. Since 2002, he’s shifted his focus to live performance, performing house, techno, breaks, psytrance, hard trance, ambient, and other styles.
Mesmerizing, passionate and stunning are just a few words that describe this hot talent in the Canadian DJ scene. Growing up with music was an important part of her life, she was able to truly appreciate the many avenues and genres. Playing the piano and having those classically trained roots contributed to her self-taught ability of picking up precise skills behind the decks.
Her natural ear for sounds makes djing & production in the studio perfect playgrounds for her creative and electrifying mixing skills. Exceeding expectations every performance, she has been described as one of the hardest working DJs in Canada. So it’s no surprise that DJ Laela has become one of the fastest growing and highly sought after female DJs in the country. She holds many residencies around Western Canada including Whistler, Vancouver and Victoria nights, regular Revelstoke appearances, along with Banff and Calgary shows in AB.
DJ Laela’s talents go far beyond her ability to lay down tracks, as she has been known to surprise the crowd by throwing in her alluring ‘Live Vocals’ over her tracks. Depending on the mood and desire of the crowd, you may catch her on the microphone and you will be amazed on a whole other level!! Her style reflects the sexiest, dirtiest house & electro beats in the club, so expect the dancefloors to be filled from start to end of the show.
She has supported MSTRKRFT, Sam La More (MOS Australia) and played alongside the likes of The Stafford Brothers (MOS Australia, Fox8 TV) and most recently Jamie Vale on a Red Bull Western Canada Tour. She has also played previous years at main stage & venues at the 2009 & 2010 VEMF. Between the 2010 Winter Olympics/Paralympics she performed in Vancouver & Whistler playing some of the hottest venues including Barcelona (Vancouver’s #1 voted Nightclub VNA 2010) and Gorgomish Afterhours, it was one of her favorite and most memorable tour experiences so far.
With each performance her domino effect occurs, making it’s way from venue to venue leaving one thing in common…a truly positive lasting impression! The result is her bookings branching out further away each time in higher demand. Networking at the highest level whenever and where ever she is has become her signature promoting herself as an artist. Recent exposure into the US market gained her representation on the talent roster of THUMP SOCIETY out of NYC, scouted by Reflex the agency owner and Resident DJ to Red Bull NYC. In Canada she’s signed with Symbiant Artist Management based out of Vancouver. She carries her own branding “Party Beats” that has really started making a mark across the country, taking this amazing female DJ coast to coast from Victoria to Halifax. The most recent affiliation added to her expanding roster is being signed to the global clubbing brand “Sunglasses at Night”. A recognized brand that holds residencies internationally including places like Ibiza.
DJ Laela illuminates the decks, and should not to be missed if you have the opportunity to see her play. Already this summer she has played SYNC Festival and will be gracing the stages in Kelowna for the Sexy Sounds Festival. We are definitely sure to see a lot more of this beautiful and talented DJ in the near future.
