I am a DJ/Producer from Calgary, Alberta Canada. I have been DJing since 2002 and have been producing since 2008. I have been blessed enough to have had the chance to hold my own residencies at clubs within the city over the years. I have also been given some wonderful opportunities to warm-up for such acts as Kaskade, Laidback Luke, Mark Farina, Nick Warren, Andy Moor and Chromeo amongst others.
I first discovered my serious passion for music while dancing like Michael Jackson in my parents living room as a kid! It was so much fun and although I may not have fully understood it at the time, it was then that I realized music was the one thing in my life that created that feeling of connection with who I truly am. It would be a number of years later till I got decks but now looking back at the course of events that led up to me starting to DJ I can see how it all fits together perfectly.
I am currently attending Stylus College in New Westminster, BC for music production so keep your ears open for my newest productions and mixes.
A DJ/Producer from Nanaimo BC, Canada, Sean “GwaJa” Lee’s musical journey started in his youth studying classical and Jazz. After his first LP release “Space LP”, GwaJa went on to start DJing. GwaJa has won a local DJ contest hosted by One Night Stand Entertainment, and has earned a resident spot at the local club, Leveltwo Dance+Lounge. GwaJa plays wherever he can, whenever he can, bringing the joy and sounds of electro to the masses wherever he goes.

Combining dub, downtempo, hip hop, dnb, house and breakbeats AFL pushes sounds both old and new to create an eclectic and unique audio experience. Formerly known as Azrael, AFL originally hailed from Victoria, BC, but currently resides in Vancouver where he has been laying low and perfecting his cross genre blend. These days AFL has been heavy on the dubstep tip, creating bass laden mixes such as his “Smoke Sessions” Compilations. Be on the look out for new mixes and original productions, AFL is sure to be making moves in 2011 and beyond.
My name is Andrew Sherry, I am 24 years of age. Music, and musical instruments have always been a huge part of my life. Electronic music has always fascinated me with it’s rapid evolution, and out of this world sounds, and capabilities.
In 2010 I was fortunate enough to have been apprenticed by my dear friend DJ Kenzie Clarke. I quickly caught the hang of it and was immediately addicted. I had my first gig within 4 months of stepping behind the tables at Lucky Bar, opening for BUSTA, and MR. Smith.
Over the past year I have played quite a few a gigs in Victoria, Vancouver, and Whistler. Some memorable gigs over the past year have been, The media club in Vancouver, 919 opening for LA Riots, holding down NYPD(Thursdays) at Lucky Bar for 3 months, Maple room for blackout at the Strath, OH GREAT Mondays with Wax, MR Smith vs the Shrew episodes at Lucky Bar on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
From Disco, Breaks, Electro, House, Dubstep and DNB I love it all and have a knack for knowing what the crowed wants to hear. You can expect to keep your feet moving, head banging and have the urge to want more.
My future plans for djing are to continue to enjoy it, and learn. I would like to increase the amount of shows that I play out of town, and will be starting to take over Friday Evenings, and Saturday Evenings at Lucky Bar with Chris Longshanks.
Whether he’s opening for international superstars like Tipper, Bassnectar,A skillz and the Freestylers; rocking a headlining slot at an outdoor party or providing backdrop beats in a local lounge, Generic is the kind of DJ who fully brings it, whatever the gig. His combination of technical skills (the guy has taken several Vancouver Island DJ competition titles), impeccable ear for crowd-rocking tunes and a fun-loving attitude makes Generic (nee Cole Magnusson) one of the Island’s most sough-after disc jockeys. Expect one of his sets to be chock-a-block with broken beats, glitch hop, drum and bass and dubstep—including some of his own tracks, edits and remixes—with plenty of cutting and scratching thrown in for good measure. With skills like that, it’s no surprise this 10-year vet behind the decks rarely goes a weekend without dropping a set
David Mumford has been spinning a mix of progressive, electro-house and top 40 mash-ups for just over three years. He is always able to get the party crazy with his energy on stage and awesome mixes. David took a small break from the music scene to go to school and complete a business degree but he is now back in full force. Just turning 21 David is already making his mark, he has launched his own record label “Dirty Talk Records” which has signed its first artists. It continues to grow. He’s is now trying is hand at producing, be sure to follow him as he’s definitely going to be one to watch.
What began as a simple love for music has grown into something much bigger. With a background in jazz trumpet, Phate took his love for hip hop and music knowledge, and began producing and DJing in 1998.
Producing his first DIY CD in 2001, Phate sold over 500 copies by simple word of mouth. This CD allowed him the opportunity to work with artists he would have never had.
Phate has since played along side such artists as T-Pain, Warren G, Naughty By Nature, A-Trak, Dirt Nasty, K’Naan, Kardinal Offishall, Isis from Thunderhiest, Swollen Members, The Beatnuts, Sweatshop Union, Karl Wolf and Moka Only to name a few.
Somewhere along the line, Phate gained a love for dance music. With a affinity for electro house, disco house and his own productions, Phate has become the man to call to make the kids dance.
A new face to bass music, but in no way a new influence to underground dancefloors, DewDrop is an experienced producer bringing tried and true tools to the mix, now crafting a new niche in Glitched out Dubstep for Canada’s dancefloors!
Embracing fully dynamic intentions and illustrating all gradients of the waveform, Dew’s sounds have been heard at many of Canada’s biggest festivals catering to underground music such as; Shambhala, Motion Notion, Soundwave, Carrington, and many many others.
Dewdrop’s fascination with cutting edge sound began in the underground electronic dance scene’s of the West Coast of Canada, inspired by events from The Old Nexus Gatherings, Shambhala, and the B.C. festival scene. With over 13 years experience mixing dance music live, organizing events, and running large sound systems, Dew has experienced a large variety of dance floors. Utilizing his sensitivity to emotional atmosphere and groove, DewDrop’s sets are a journey carefully guided through many moods and genres depending on the crowd. His music has brought him to various cities and he has performed at a number of large scale stages. He has organized bi-monthly full scale dance events almost constantly since 2003 in western canada. Dew’s passion, devotion, and love for the dance music scene will be present for many, many years to come.
This is just the first wave in what we hope are many from DewDrop on his homemade Label “Dew Lab recordings”, deep, driving, low end thump from the West Coast!
At a young age, I was not interested in music. Like anyone else, I’d listen to the hits on the radio, but was never really inspired by what was popular. One day, at the age of 11, everything changed when I was gifted a magical burnt CD filled with all varieties of electro – from house to trance, from trance back to big beat. In that moment a lifelong quest was started to branch out and discover the very best of every genre. From there, it was only a matter of time before listening wasn’t enough – the need to create was growing within.
As a musician, I believe this passion has led to an eclectic, creative, and exciting style that cannot be accurately contained by any single genre. From one song to the next, I try to bring a new energy, a fresh angle, and a wicked vibe – all designed to tear the dance floor to shreds.

One part sexy robot and one part aerobics instructor, 25 year old Matt Dauncey has managed to find the middle ground between music and athletics. By harnessing the power of wrestling suits, tennis sweatbands, vintage synthesizers, and electric guitar, Neighbour has tapped into an ancient power-source that has given him the capacity to conjure up frenzied dancefloors
wherever he is needed. Through a mysterious process that involves not one, but TWO gigantic crystals, the Homebreakin Records co-owner has managed to combine the raw ecstacy of the early days of disco with razor-sharp futuristic production.
His hybrid DJ / live performance tore across the continent this year, culminating in an incredible series of festival dates across western Canada, including headlining slots at Shambhala 2009, Soundwave, Bass Coast Project, Astral Harvest, and Summer Break. In addition to playing almost 100% original production and remixes, Neighbour plays live synthesizer and electric guitar alongside his legendary DJ sets, which range from no-nonsense electric funk bangers to gorgeous technicolor remixes of classic garage, disco, and house music.
Not one to be pigeonholed, Neighbour has spent the better part of the last two years collaborating with everyone in sight. Upcoming dancehall tracks with Calgary’s Ouda Ouda, boogie-raps with fellow performer MC ThinkTank, and an unbelieveable slate of remixes and original releases guarantee that as soon as you think you know that “Neighbour Sound”, it has grown into something completely different.
Some people say that dance music isn’t as fun as it used to be; then again, some people haven’t seen a grown man in a unitard shoot lazers out of his guitar far away into the night sky.
When Chino moved to Vancouver years ago, he got his first taste of electro. With a voracious appetite for more, he was instantly hooked on electro beats and buzzing bass lines. Quickly becoming a download maniac, scavenging the online world for all the electro he could get his hands on, Chino realized this was not enough! Two CDJ’s, Serato Scratch Live, and a pioneer mixer later, DJ Chi No was born! Since then Chi No has been heard killing dancefloors all over the place… No nightclub, afterhours, or rooftop is SAFE from being slammed by his heavy beats & heart pounding live sets!!
Now by getting his hands wet with producing, you can expect Chi No soon to be sharing his dirty electro dreams with the world…
Chi No is also the resident dj at Hush for their Monday nights with his partner in crime Soulfix… Their tag team style and in “yo face” approach to dropping bombs always has the dancefloor packed and jumping!!!

Played in several metal bands during high school. Near the end of High school, started DJ-ing and producing electronic music. After high school, moved to Vancouver and attended the Art Institute of Vancouver to study Professional Recording Arts. Then started own record label (Club Ammo Recordings) on which we released a compilation EP ft. myself and Elliot Mars. Followed up with several remixes released on various labels through Beatport, Juno Download, and other top dance music download sites. Recently graduated from The Art Institute and am focusing solely on music production and DJ-ing. Solo EP set for release in August and several remixes to be released over the next 4 months.
Whether it’s his fresh face, fresh beats or fresh attire, it’s hard not to notice Neon Steve. Hailing in from Victoria, BC on Vancouver Island; Steve is quickly making his mark as one of the West Coast’s top DJ/Producers. At the fresh age of 22, his list of accomplishments has already grown to be quite impressive. Wether it be his infectious live act (that recently seen him take 1st place in the 2010 Hush DJ Challenge), or his ability of being able to craft ass-shaking tunes in the studio, It’s no surprise he’s had the opportunity to share the stage with some of the worlds top acts (A Skillz, Rusko, Krafty Kuts, Featurecast, Jack Beats, Boy 8 Bit, Nick Thayer, the Freestylers, MSTRKRFT, Freq Nasty, Pimpsoul, Fort Knox Five, Deekline, Farace, Parker, Mat the Alien, Busta, Stickybuds, J-Roc, and Ed 209 to name a few) When you get this guy behind the decks you can expect a high energy blend of everything from Disco to Drum and Bass. Matched with some precise cuts and clever personal edits a plenty, Steve has certainly developed his own brand of party rockin’. With a touring schedule in 2010 that took him around B.C. and Alberta, gigs at major festivals like Soundwave, VEMF, and Rifflandia, a remix for Jpod’s label (Swing Set Sounds) and some Bootlegs that quickly hit the top of the Hype Machine and Soundcloud charts; Steve is officially warmed up. Off to a running start in 2011, Steve has already got a Vinyl release on the U.K.‘s Bombstrikes Label, as well as a release on Jalapeno Records, Rottun Recordings, and Canada’s own Punchout!. With support from the likes of Excision, Datsik, Featurecast, Pimpsoul, Fort Knox 5, Stickybuds, Busta, Slynk etc etc… It’s safe to say the future is indeed very bright for this guy—they don’t call him Neon Steve for nothing.
I started DJing in 2008 with a volunteer radio show called Electroflux on CFUR in Prince George, BC. The show lasted a year and half, and since then I’ve done a couple of house parties. All the while, I’ve been practicing my production work, and I plan to release an EP by the end of the summer.
Using strange techniques and savage track selection, Mr. Majestic’s sets are often a bizarre event, resulting in complete mayhem. He’s been pinned as one to watch in the near future showcasing interesting mixes and swaps between genres in his unpredictable sets.
with 3 years of experience on the tables, Mr Majestic is a very technical Dj that throws down a combination of Electro, Dubstep and Disco in an manner that can only be described as “Devastating”. With the intentions of mass destruction to dance-floors everywhere, there’s no stopping Mr. Majestic’s onslaught for global domination.

2010/2011 was an incredible adventure for the soulfix & Dirty Politics alias’. Having spent the first year in Victoria, collaborating with some of the local favorites, soulfix parleted his record label and beatport connections, to give many local artists thier first record deals, and first taste of serious international marketplace exposure. Keoni, Chi No, Veela, Cityof9s, Florian, Happyfeat(DTF!), Neo1, LSDJ 50, Antagonist, and even one of the boys from Whoa Grenade, all cut their teeth and made their beatport debut, on one of the record labels that soulfix owns and manages. Audio Planet even helped to expose some established local artists as well, including Collaborations with Toby Emerson, King Kornelius, Wobble Skankz and more.
Soulfix’ local contribution also has created many opportunities for new up & coming DJ’s to preform locally, with regular events around town in the past year and more to come this fall. Having brought many headliners to the city including, Bass Kleph, Mc Flipside, Will Bailey, Lazy Rich vs Jelo, Paul Anthony, Dylan Kennedy & having thrown countless local events, including a Monday night residency @ the world famous Hush Nightclub with Chi No, Micheal was voted by the public as Victoria’s premier Music Producer & Top Electro DJ, at the first Annual Victoria Nightlife Awards. neur0mancer, named after the AI in the William Gibson novel of the same name, is a purveyor of mind-altering sonic substances, ranging from relaxing ambiance to vicious acid attacks to intense mindtrips. He’s been DJing since 1996, producing since 1998, and performing live since 2001.
DJ WOOD made his name in BC’s drum’n'bass scene, DJing at some of Vancouver Island’s earliest raves and promoting Victoria’s first d’n'b club nights, including debut appearences by old-timers like DJ Phantasy and Kenny Ken. Re-locating to Vancouver in 1999, Wood went on to host “Solar Bass”, HQ Communications’ radio show on Planet Aaj 96.1. He also held a residency at HQ’s “Tecknowledgy” club night where he supported world-class talent like Ray Keith, DJ SS and Bad Company.
After Solar Bass went off air, Wood & partners Link, Silence & Kotekan started their own radio show on the same station. “Sunday Sessions” gained a wide listenership throughout the lower mainland & Vancouver Island, and eventually spawned a club night of the same name at Sonar, Vancouver’s premier night spot at the time.
In addition to Sunday Sessions, Wood was also a resident DJ for “Zwack!” Fridays at Unit 20, an open-format club night where breaks, d’n'b and hip hop ruled the roost. It was here that Wood first made contact with his future collaborator DJ Soo, an aspiring turntablist & fellow drum’n'bass DJ. In agreeance that the drum’n'bass scene had grown stale and unimaginative, the duo launched a new club night at The Met Pub, “Bangers ‘n’ Mash”, that would allow them to explore their full range of musical taste.
After the cancellation of Bangers’n'Mash in late 2004, DJ Wood & DJ Soo were ready to step their game up to the next level. At a New Year’s Eve party called “Mangladesh”, the duo played together on 4 turntables, surprising even the most jaded partiers with their genre & tempo defying set. This set, re-recorded at Wood’s apartment later that month, became the duo’s debut mixtape and has gone on to become a world-wide cult classic. The duo have gone on to play venues all over Canada and support a wide variety of international acts including Stanton Warriors, Bassnectar, South Rakkas Crew and DJ Z-Trip.
The year 2005 saw the launch of Wood’s production career. Spurned by the success of their club nights & parties, local breakbeat crew TwentyHz Music were set to launch their record label. For their debut single, head-honcho DJ Soda chose the tune he had been opening his sets with for the past year - “Bun Dem” by DJ Wood. Wood went on to produce another track for the label, 2006’s “Poppa Large”. His third release, 2007’s “Eye No”, came out on the debut single for the UK ‘Nu Funk’ label Goodgroove Recordings. More releases for the now globally reknowned Goodgroove have ensued, along with a slot at the Canadian debut of their world wide Nu Funk club night “Regrooved”.
More recently, Wood has helped establish Super Happy Dance Deejays, a crew of veteran DJs who are making waves in Vancouver’s after hours scene. On the production front, Wood’s first digital release has come in the form of a remix for Ohio based artist Ruckus Roboticus, released March 2010 on the Dance Or Die label. Continuing his partnership with DJ Soo and as a solo artist, this seasoned performer shows no signs of slowing down!
DJ Chris Poynter has been mixing music ever since he was 9 years old when he figured out how to record songs from the radio onto his cassette player. He got into the mobile DJ business when he was 17, and for 8 years had a lot of success spinning at weddings, school dances, corporate events, and house parties all over the Lower Mainland and the Okanagan region of BC. Although he still plays the role of mobile DJ from time-to-time, Chris has more recently began to focus his energies on mixing dance and electronic music. Boasting an extremely eclectic taste, Chris is the type of DJ who does not believe in limiting himself to one genre. Because of this philosophy, he has been heralded for his exceptional abilities to combine fitting song choice and a creative mixing style to effectively control the ebb and flow of the dance floor all night long… no matter what the venue or occasion!
DJ Chris Poynter also has a formally trained background as a jazz trumpet & piano player, and is currently studying Elementary Education at the University of Victoria. Teacher by day, DJ by night?
This is DJ Chris Poynter’s first time playing at VEMF, and he is hoping it will help him break into the Victoria scene.
With over a decade invested into the Vancouver Island scene, Mike has been established as one of the most reliable DJs around. New genres have come and gone but what makes Mykee unique is his ability to acquire the best music from all things Electronica. Whether it’s House, Electro, Breaks or Techno, Mike can read a crowd and knows exactly what to play.
Mike is also one of the only active DJs today that played at the very first VEMF in 2001. He’s been a loyal supporter of the festival since day 1. With his production company, “Reliable Entertainment” he’s managed to build a large following not only as a DJ but as a promoter, bringing out international artists to our very own Hush Nightclub in Victoria.
As far as CD releases go, there are only 2 known mixes that Mike has released. He likes to keep people guessing with what he plays and not be labeled to a specific genre. One of the CDs Mike released was, “Mykee - Just Do it” a few years ago and has gone on to still be one of the most popular mixes by any DJ on Vancouver Island. With that said, Mike has promised to release a, “Just Do it Vol. 2” while playing at this year’s VEMF. So make sure you’re up front to grab a copy!
With a residency at Hush, ongoing gigs at Sunset Room, and being booked almost every weekend at dance parties, DJ Mykee has been recognized as the most on demand DJ on the Island. Be sure to check out his set at VEMF 2011!

When Riggers swapped his out of rego, canary yellow ’87 Sigma station wagon for a set of dodgy second hand turntables and a mixer the seed was planted and the addiction to electronic music was created. A fully confessed festival and live events junkie, Riggers spent years, frequenting festivals, bustin out to some of his favourite producers all the while soaking up ideas for live performances, and original tracks while his mates simply soaked up the alcohol….….
Taking influences from producers such as; Wolfgang Gartner, Deadmau5, Krafty Kuts, Aniki, Twocker, Jelo, Stupid Fresh and Plump DJs, Riggers serves up a fresh genre infusion of breaks, electro, and fidget house to form his own unique style. Alissa is passionate about art, cooking, clothing & costume design, music, & dancing. As “NeonSally”, she spent many sleepless nights dancing all over the interior of BC & under the stars at The Shambhala Music Festival to her favorite DJs.

Having spent 11 years in Mexico, and being fortunate enough to be exposed to Latin culture, she has a strong desire to explore her roots in her musical selections. Depending on what mood we catch her in, hot summer afternoons call for deep sexy Chicago beats and bouncy latin-infused house, and on colder nights, expect anything from dirty deep organic tribal tech to quirky & fun latin tech house….

Grasp The Erro is a Canadian dj/producer who currently lives in Vancouver BC and focuses on all genres of bass music. He has been behind the wheels of steel and the midi keyboard for nearly a decade. Originally, way, way, back in the day his musical roots and inspiration sprung from early rave culture. However, from the beginning of his time behind the decks Grasp became heavily absorbed in the realm of Hip-Hop and turntablism largely due to his fascination with using the turntables as instruments to manipulate sound i.e. skratching. Grasp went on to take 3rd place in a Regional DMC Qualifier in 2004. He now divides his time between live shows, furthering his turntablist skills and producing. 2011 has been a big year for Grasp with 13 tracks signed to date and many more on the way.
I started to produce and dj 2 years ago, it really did change my view in life and made it alot better, my of my friends told me i should give vemf a try sometime in my life so here i go.

Matt Dezine has been bathing in drum and bass for over ten years, seeking out a fusion of sexy dark funk and developing a penchant for hard bass and kicking ass. Skilled at fighting off attacking velociraptors while throwing down some of the hugest drum riddims you’ll ever hear. Holding down a three year strong monthly at Hush nightclub as one third of the cataclysmic Dreadsteppas has minted his technique to a razors edge. Sonically forging together an new breed of sound, this beat juggernaut isn’t afraid to do things differently in the studio. Always striving for the marring together of melodie and destruction, like angels shitting chainsaws. There are only two things this auditory wizard doesn’t like, that group in the back not dancing, and people who talk in the third person…
you know who you are.
Taking his name from a line in a Slayer song, DJ Demonseed assaults the dancefloor with the brutal sounds of Dutch hardcore, hardstyle, and hard dark drum’n’bass, better known as evilstep. His love of hardcore began in the late 80s and early 90s with speedmetal, deathmetal and industrial groups including Slayer, Metallica, Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death, Voivod, Ministry, Malhavoc, and Skinny Puppy, and progressed into electronic music in 1994 with the emergence of the Rotterdam hardcore techno sound. He likes melody with his hardcore, along with hard drums and plenty of bass. Recently he has expanded his sound into hardstyle and hard techno, by slowing the more melodic aspects of Rotterdam from the typical 170+ beats per minute to a more manageable 140bpm.
Chris Okibi is an innovative and unconventional DJ, producer, and live performance artist. With an early beginning in jungle and drum & bass and mentoring from some of the west coast’s finest, Okibi has firmly established himself in the growing bass music scene, playing alongside artists like 12th Planet, Noah D, Capital J, RCola, and ill.Gates. He brings a diverse selection of styles to every set, from rolling liquid riddims, to dubwise exclusives, grimy dubstep, and forward-thinking funky and juke. Okibi utilizes everything from vinyl to MIDI controllers in the mix. In late 2006, he founded Union Sound System, a steadily growing network of avant-garde artists. Involved in a number of eclectic projects, from the VNLA nominated Dreadsteppas DJ crew, to the electro-punk stylings of AUTOMATON, Okibi stays true to the old school roots while pioneering future vibes.

The Goodfellaz have started 2012 out with a huge BANG. Every show these boys have thrown down has had the crowd flying out off their ass to hit the floor. Being brought up in the Vancoucer Island electronic music scene, these two artists both started their musical journeys with the devastating bass that the Island brings. With 20+ years of music experience between the two of them, brings a whole new musical massacre when they take over the decks.
Already having opened for some big names individually such as Yan Zombie, Stylust, Emotionz, JADA, Kill The Noise, Czech & together opening for names like Mark Instinct (Rottun), You are bound to see these guys playing alongside some huge names in the future!
With Palletz deriving from heavy side of the spectrum with Dubstep, DnB, and Electro, and MrMacHimself hailing from Electro House, Breaks, and Fidget, these two never fail to get the entire crowd outta their seats and tearing up the dancefloor with their bangin’ style and fierce one on one battles they bring out to every show! Spending 2011 playing all kinds of parties and festivals, getting signed with various local labels, these boys have definately been proving that they will make 2012 a super busy & exciting year. With 2012 starting out heavy, they have been destroying the club, hitting the scene hard rocking crowds wherever they go!!
Born and raised in Vancouver Dan, DJ Distro, discovered a love for music during and after highschool by taking part in many preformances and classes as a guitarist and recording engineer. Later discovering a love for electronic music he has built on this live preformance and production background to bring a unique and energetic live show blending classic mixing techniques with hip hop turntabalism to provide a fresh take on the classic electro and house mixes.
RYAN… ALEXANDER… FREDERICK… HRECHKA… Better known to most as “R.A.F.H.”... is no stranger to the scene. This 10 year veteran of the decks has been turning heads all over Vancouver Island where he has headlined major clubs and Afterhours spots, while also opening for prestigious artists such as Sebastien Leger, Chris Lake, Bass Kleph, Adam K, Cosmic Gate, Lazy Rich, Miles Dyson, Dabruck & Klein, Wolfgang Gartner, Morgan Page, & JELO to name afew.
Never locking himself down into one genre of music, Ryan is constantly changing it up throughout all his performances. His Fusion brand of Tech, Techno, & Progressive House, is blended into what he calls “Prog-Lectro.” His live sets are full of emotion, energetic efx use, and rock solid mixing, always keeping the crowd guessing. With 2010 seeing his first single “A1-BETA” finished, and his first remix of renound Vancouver artist SKLA’s track “HWPBC” is now available on Beatport under his HI-LIFE label. With the launch of his new podcast show, and other projects underway, 2011 looks to be an exciting year indeed for RAFH!
Performance and music have been a part S.K.Bass’ life for as long as she can remember. By age 7 she was performing in piano recitals and musical theater in her hometown of Duncan BC. To this day S.K.’s passions remain the same. She spends her days working in Canada’s television industry, and her nights blowing up speakers around BC’s club and party scene.
In the past two years, S.K. has played in numerous venues across the mainland and Vancouver Island, held down a residency called BASSLINES at Lick Club in Vancouver and had a weekly timeslot on a British webradio station where she was both the sole female DJ and only Canadian.
S.K.Bass’ sets are focused on danceability. If she doesn’t get you moving, no one will. She fuses oldschool throwbacks with fresh, cutting-edge stormers that will fill any dancefloor. Don’t be surprised if she tears out some classic dance hits or booty bass tracks from the 1990s either. S.K.Bass will always get the party started right, and quickly!
Mesmerizing, passionate and stunning are just a few words that describe this hot talent in the Canadian DJ scene. Growing up with music was an important part of her life, she was able to truly appreciate the many avenues and genres. Playing the piano and having those classically trained roots contributed to her self-taught ability of picking up precise skills behind the decks.
Her natural ear for sounds makes djing & production in the studio perfect playgrounds for her creative and electrifying mixing skills. Exceeding expectations every performance, she has been described as one of the hardest working DJs in Canada. So it’s no surprise that DJ Laela has become one of the fastest growing and highly sought after female DJs in the country. She holds many residencies around Western Canada including Whistler, Vancouver and Victoria nights, regular Revelstoke appearances, along with Banff and Calgary shows in AB.
DJ Laela’s talents go far beyond her ability to lay down tracks, as she has been known to surprise the crowd by throwing in her alluring ‘Live Vocals’ over her tracks. Depending on the mood and desire of the crowd, you may catch her on the microphone and you will be amazed on a whole other level!! Her style reflects the sexiest, dirtiest house & electro beats in the club, so expect the dancefloors to be filled from start to end of the show.
She has supported MSTRKRFT, Sam La More (MOS Australia) and played alongside the likes of The Stafford Brothers (MOS Australia, Fox8 TV) and most recently Jamie Vale on a Red Bull Western Canada Tour. She has also played previous years at main stage & venues at the 2009 & 2010 VEMF. Between the 2010 Winter Olympics/Paralympics she performed in Vancouver & Whistler playing some of the hottest venues including Barcelona (Vancouver’s #1 voted Nightclub VNA 2010) and Gorgomish Afterhours, it was one of her favorite and most memorable tour experiences so far.
With each performance her domino effect occurs, making it’s way from venue to venue leaving one thing in common…a truly positive lasting impression! The result is her bookings branching out further away each time in higher demand. Networking at the highest level whenever and where ever she is has become her signature promoting herself as an artist. Recent exposure into the US market gained her representation on the talent roster of THUMP SOCIETY out of NYC, scouted by Reflex the agency owner and Resident DJ to Red Bull NYC. In Canada she’s signed with Symbiant Artist Management based out of Vancouver. She carries her own branding “Party Beats” that has really started making a mark across the country, taking this amazing female DJ coast to coast from Victoria to Halifax. The most recent affiliation added to her expanding roster is being signed to the global clubbing brand “Sunglasses at Night”. A recognized brand that holds residencies internationally including places like Ibiza.
DJ Laela illuminates the decks, and should not to be missed if you have the opportunity to see her play. Already this summer she has played SYNC Festival and will be gracing the stages in Kelowna for the Sexy Sounds Festival. We are definitely sure to see a lot more of this beautiful and talented DJ in the near future.

“music is the language we all understand without having to speak…”
K3V (formerly DJ Kev) lives for the filth. With a sound based in Filthy Electro House, K3V constantly blends this with the dirtiest of Dubstep, Breaks, Glitch and even some Drum and Bass to create his signature sound which has been wowing audiences all over North America, Australasia, and the world. K3V pushes the limits of every genre he plays with his heavy, crunchy and filthy sound, and has taken hold of every dance floor he’s play for, making him an extremely popular act wherever he’s performed. Also adding in live PA keyboarding and an unmatchable stage presence into each of his sets, he creates a completely unique and spectacular performance that grabs hold of the crowd and delivers an experience that leaves you craving for more.
K3V has been a featured act at many major music festivals across western North America over the past few years, including Shambhala, Motion Notion and Astral Harvest. In 2009, he toured in Australia and New Zealand, including a very well received performance on New Zealand’s nationally syndicated George FM to a listenership of 65,000+ people, and sets on FBI and Beatz Radio in Sydney to a prime time audience heard throughout the country. Due to this success, he also established his own residency in Sydney at one of the cities’ premier nightclubs under his own BASSIC label, all while receiving huge support by media and fans throughout his time there.
With many innovative and soul-shaking remixes, originals and bootlegs under his production belt, K3V delivers sets full of ‘must-haves’ for both DJ’s and fans alike. Keeping most productions under close guard, he ensures the audience will hear the freshest sounds out there, promising that unmatchable ‘first listen’ feeling.
One of his most widely heard mixes was broadcast to a huge global audience on New Year’s Day 2009 alongside Will Bailey + Calvertron (aka Twocker) and Rudder. The show was again rebroadcast 2 weeks later due to the overwhelming feedback that was received. K3V has also received recognition from electronic music heavyweights such as Calvertron, John B, Steve Murano, Miss Behavin’, Trent Cantrelle, Skool of Thought and Ministry of Sound’s Brian Cheetham. He also has won countless competitions over the years, including a Bacardi sponsorship in 2007.
With 700+ shows under his belt, massive stage presence and a passionate spirit that has taken him to the global stage, K3V produces some of the most amazing live performances out there. Always dropping the sickest, filthiest and floor-filling basslines for his crowds, or creating new sounds not yet discovered, K3V has been labeled by thousands as an act not to be missed, and will be a musical force to be reckoned with for years to come.

We started playing together two years ago, and decided we needed to make a name for ourselves. Despite being a relative newcomer to Victoria, Outsider has quickly made himself a fixture in the local electronic music scene. The drum-and-bass DJ also known as Jon Camilleri is a versatile beat connoisseur with an uncanny ability to read a crowd, whether they’re downtempo diners at a lounge or frenzied festival-goers. He’s rocked pretty much every major electronic music festival on Vancouver Island (including closing for Dieselboy, Dirty Phonics and TC in the 2009 and 2010 editions of the legendary Soundwave Music Festival), and regularly headlines his own gigs, both on the road and in Victoria. He can also be found behind the decks as a resident for both Whitebird and sub|division, Victoria’s foremost pusher of bass culture. In the club, he is a surgeon in the mix, clipping along flawlessly from track to storming track, able to blend ol’ skool amen-laden flavours with modern envelope pushers. From Victoria, BC, Canada; Michael Glover is Miami Nights 1984 and co-founder of Rosso Corsa Records—an independent record label dedicated to 1980s synthesizers. With Rosso Corsa Records he is championing artists such as Mitch Murder, Lazerhawk and Jordan F to make 1980s-inspired music with modern fidelity.
Being among the pioneers of this revival, Mike’s first project Actrazer initially defined the Rosso Corsa sound together with output from label co-founder Lazerhawk. They coined their music Outrun, a genre of soundtrack music with epic leads and arpeggiated synths. At the same time, Kavinsky, the Outrunners and the Valerie Collective were all contributing to this new sound. Since 2010 Michael Glover has been ecstatic about the success of his second project known as Miami Nights 1984 (MN84). Characterized by smooth synthesizers and nostalgic solos, this new sound accentuates the carefree feel of the 1980s. The Miami Nights sound is garnering support on an international scale with the official remix of ‘Somebody I Used To Know.’ by Gotye. It infuses 1980s charm with Gotye’s powerful voices and moody lyrics. Rollings Stone says it’s an “eighties-inspired synth-pop remix, inspired by [mike’s] love of old John Hughes films” while VH1 says “It’s a synth-led 80s redux, and it’s pretty rad”
When asked about influences, Mike says he obviously takes from the 80s: “The music, movies, shows, cars and girls are all running through my imagination when I write a piece of music. I’m not happy with a piece of music unless I can imagine it as the soundtrack to a film or show. Ever since I was a child I enjoyed synth-based music like Tangerine Dream, Jean Michael Jarre and Ray Lynch.” His name coincides with the original run of Miami Vice TV show on September 28, 1984. In creating his sound he uses “a variation of analogue synths and virtual instruments in Abelton Live. I’ve been using more virtual instruments for convenience and ability to leave a project without worrying about getting the same sound again.” Many of the parts are first recorded from live instrumentation and tweaked afterward in Ableton. “If I had to choose my best track… it would have to be Elevator Of Love or Ocean Drive“. I think many of us would agree with Ocean Drive which is a soundtrack to California’s Pacific Coast Highway or even Ocean Drive on the Miami Beach strip:
An recent addition and upcoming act in the Vancouver Island music scene, Dan DJ Distro Charles spins a fluid mix of house and electro beats sure to get even the most stubborn of crowds moving. Blending a strong background in audio engineering and a love for the funky, eclectic, and soulful, his style merges the best of electronic and hip hop DJing to create a truly unique experience. Never one to settle for simply playing whatever is on the latest charts Dan is constantly seeking out and creating remixes and mashups to bring a fresh feel and new energy to his shows.
The popularity of bass-heavy dance music is spreading like wildfire across the world, with many producers crafting their own styles of dubstep, grime and garage. In the humble city of Pittsburgh, PA DJ/producer Kastle has cultivated his own style of bass-heavy beats with a soulful twist reminiscent of classic Chicago house.
After teaching himself guitar and piano around the age of 12, Barrett Richards pooled his efforts towards electronic instrumentation about two years later. He began taking production as seriously as he did DJing during that time, and involved himself deep into the Northeast rave scene. It was no surprise that in time, though, personal growth and 14 years of production experience paired with a degree in audio engineering would breed a new sound. Kastle came to life at a pivotal moment after a big move from Boston back to his hometown of Pittsburgh in March 2009. After nearly a year of conceptualizing, he knew he was working on something special.
The name itself implies a fortress, a personal space that is used to cultivate a long-time love of hip-hop and R&B, old garage and 2-step and fuse it with the magnetizing effect that dubstep, garage and bass-heavy music has had on Barrett and, really, the various communities of underground electronic music. Readjusting to Steel City - a concentrated environment of blue collars and strong values - he wasted zero effort to get the project off the ground.
The studio and touring dichotomy of an artist’s life is a perfect yin & yang for Kastle in both his production and outlook. His professional experience as an engineer puts forth clean, crisp production, but his love for the party provides a playful bass that eats a room. Altogether, the wide varieties of vocals - both originals and sampled - are a key element to Kastle’s sound. “I grew up on hip hop and R&B, and sampling is considered an art form,” he says. “It’s becoming more and more fun to dig through old records and find obscure samples.” He cites another unexpected influence -legendary French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard, who had once said that “it’s not where you take things from, it’s where you take them to.”
Straight out of the gates Kastle has garnished strong media attention from the likes of XLR8R, URB and Fact Magazine along with plays on BBC Radio 1.His fresh and unique production work has also seen him working with big labels such as Ministry of Sound and Scion A/V and he has lent his production chops to rework artists such as Example, Blu Mar Ten and The Glitch Mob. With so much accomplished in such a short time, it is clear that not even the sky is the limit for the future of Kastle.
Fronted by the enigma that is :DT:, a visceral crowd-mesmerizing vocal powerhouse capable of hypnotizing thousands of people and holding them in the palm of his outstretched hand, guiding them through the journey that is the Wordclock experience.
Backed by the entity known as Renfield, part man, part machine and possibly of alien origin. Little is known about Renfield, and what is known is rarely spoken out loud. He stands behind his wall of technology and ushers in the soundtrack too humanities utter destruction and de-evolution, setting it too a pulsing, pounding beat.
In short, Wordclock is explosive Post-Apocalyptic Cinematic Industrial music. They will show you the future, for this is 2012, the dawning of a new age, and the Wordclock is ticking like a timebomb, ready to explode.
For the past three years, the DJ and producer born Ashley Jones has been making it rain in the disco with innovative remixes and original tracks. Jones is far from a new jack, having racked up over a decade of international club experience and studio chops as part of the legendary drum & bass group, Evol Intent. Yet as Treasure Fingers, he’s found a way to merge his diverse influences and deep history into a signature sound, packed with intricate basslines, chopped-up, gritty synth melodies, and party-ready drum breaks. It’s already captured the ears of everyone from rock groups Snowden and Miike Snow to house legends Romanthony and Roy Davis JR (all of whom personally requested the Treasure Fingers remix treatment). Equally intrigued were A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs, who quickly signed Treasure Fingers to their tastemaking label Fool’s Gold, home to Kid Sister, Duck Sauce and other buzzed-about favorites.
Treasure Fingers “Cross The Dancefloor”: “I dj now, and right now this is my favorite song to play. It’s a rare underground song” (Will.I.AM’s Favorite Party Starter Track, People Magazine) “Cross The Dancefloor” was Treasure Fingers’ debut, an inescapably catchy, vocoder-laced dance gem that two-steps over genre boundaries. The instant classic received support from AList DJs around the world such as Erick Morillo, Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Sinden and Kissy Sell Out. Treasure Fingers has kept the momentum going with heavy touring and official remixes for numerous artists including Little Boots (I Am Sound), Chromeo (Vice/Atlantic), Estelle (Atlantic), Empire of the Sun (EMI), Kid Sister (Downtown), Kid Cudi (G.O.O.D/Sony), N.A.S.A (Epitaph), and James Curd (Om) (remix went to #1 on the Beatport Club Chart). A constant favorite on Hype Machine, he has also received amazing support from such blogs as Disco Dust, Boom Boom Chik, Indy Shuffle, Big Stereo and Discobelle to name a few. A new batch of equally funky Treasure Fingers originals & a mix CD are on their way along with tours in North America, Europe, UK, Asia, Australia and South America. These coming after successful tours and gigs with artists Roy Davis Jr, Fake Blood, A-Trak, Chromeo, Laidback Luke, Fred Falke, Felix da Housecat & Benny Benassi, to name a few.
What else would you expect from the A-Town original with the Midas touch, who continues to receive accolades and Radio 1 support from heavy hitters Pete Tong, Annie Mac (with a mini mix under his belt), Kissy Sellout, Jaymo & Andy George, all helping Treasure Fingers launch up, up and away into the future with people worldwide shakin’ it cross the dancefloor. The Beat Junky, Nick, has always had a love for music and dancing; finding Break Dancing in 1983, he began teaching, and competing on Vancouver Island. With this fueling his passion for the arts he grew to appreciate the many Genre’s of
Electronic music. He began on home CD players in 1995; mixing Techno, House and Industrial, and progressed to turntables in 1996, primarily mixing Drum and Bass on vinyl. He now plays on Serato, joining the modern age both technically and
musically. Harostraight, Emma, has been playing the violin since the age of 10. She received her Bachelors in Music from Queens University, and now plays with the Cowichan Consort Orchestra and Choir, as well as many other small ensembles in the Cowichan Valley and Victoria. She began playing with The Beat Junky in 2008 and has enjoyed the musical challenge of playing a Classical instrument with an Electronic genre very much.
The Beat Junky has played all over Vancouver Island, on the Main Land, as well as the Gulf Islands. With the formation of the Temple of Gong (T.O.G.), a small group of DJ’s that would ‘renegade’ parties, The Beat Junky was able to establish himself as a DJ. The Beat Junky’s genres include, among the many: Drum-n-Bass (Raga, Jungle, Jump-up, Techstep, Hardstep, Liquid funk, Grime and now Drumstep & Halfstep); Dub-step; and Glitch-hop. If it has a broken beat he is not far away! As well as being a full time Dad, he is also a body piercer in Duncan, at Mike’s Tattoos; however Nick will not let life get in his way, for there is a new Beat on the rise, ready for anything that this industry has to offer him. Playing at VEMF, with Harostraight, will be an honor and one of our last performances together before she leaves for Medical School in the fall. Peace and love to all – bring your dancing shoes for this will be a performance to remember! J
